Objectives of the Role of Technical Agriculture Engineer
To ensure the engagement of eligible farmers from youth and women to focus on agribusiness in Muthana Governorate shifting area from deserting into greenery zone, developing agricultural sectors, and using modern methods of irrigation systems and greenhouses, using modern technologies in agriculture.
This position reports to: Project Officer
Main Responsibilities Technical Agriculture Engineer
- Train farmers to produce compost from plant and animal waste and re-using of compost for agricultural purposes.
- Installing smart Irrigation techniques and Responsive Drip Irrigation (RDI) to promote the farmer association toward climate adaptation
- Support installation, and construction of agriculture assets such as irrigation systems, water harvesting, and installation of Standard Drip Irrigation System (SDI).
-installation of Solar-based water pumps and modern irrigation systems as per Farmer needs.
- Capacity Building for the farmers on the adaptation and best practices in climate-impacted communities.
- Support the program team in the selection phase of the beneficiaries based on the arranged criteria.
- Coordination with governmental agricultural departments on supporting farmers in the Muthanna governorate by giving farmers the support they need from agricultural experts.
- Daily field visits to supervise farmer crops and horticulture after getting financial support.
- Training Farmers on salvaging water for a period to use for their crops.
- Training Farmers on using organic fertilizers and modern fertilizers for crops.
- Support the implementation of technical training to improve farmers and the association of farmers' management skills.
- Provide continuous technical assistance to farmers/producers to improve production (both, qualitative and quantitative), post-harvesting, and handling of fruits, crops, and vegetables.
- Ensure the elaboration of the TORs necessary for tenders to support farmers in materials and equipment for the installation of efficient irrigation systems and/or the initiation of climate-smart horticultural techniques.
- Ensure the introduction of new techniques to ensure the augmentation of the production.
- Arranging campaigns to combat climate change and desertification in the area.
- Perform any other relevant duties as required.
Qualification/Degree: |
University Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agricultural engineering, Development of agricultural economics, horticulture, or related field preferred. |
Professional Experience: |
1-3 years of work experience in Food security and livelihood, WASH, Climate change, or relevant field. |
Technical Skills: |
Strong knowledge of the intervention area Good computer knowledge Strong agriculture and livestock knowledge Strong water management knowledge and experience. Good knowledge and understanding of humanitarian crisis issues Experience in cash transfer programming including unconditional cash grants, agriculture and livelihood, business grants, etc. Understanding small business, business planning, and business management. |
