About Project:
The Strengthening Al-Muthanna Resilience with Vulnerable Communities (Protect-M) project will work with vulnerable communities affected by environmental shocks and water shortages in Al-Muthanna Governorate who have begun to recover following decades of crisis, and who are now looking towards longer-term development and community resilience. The project, led by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and implemented by Al-Mahaba Brotherhood and other partners, aims to support communities’ transition from recovery to development by helping them adapt to the impacts of climate change, while also supporting individuals to improve their livelihoods. Social cohesion approaches will be embedded across project activities to promote inclusive decision-making and collective action among diverse residents in Al-Muthanna .
Job Summary:
The Livelihood Assistant will support the effective day-to-day implementation of the Protect-M livelihoods project, ensuring high-quality delivery of activities that empower vulnerable communities to improve their income and resilience. The role involves coordinating outreach, registration, and beneficiary selection processes, as well as supporting needs assessments and local market monitoring to inform program design. The Livelihood Assistant will facilitate trainings, workshops, and cash distribution events in line with Al-Mahaba Brotherhood, CRS, and donor standards.
Working closely with the Project Manager, Livelihood Expert, and MEAL teams, the Livelihood Assistant will contribute to monitoring, accountability, and learning to ensure activities remain responsive to community needs. By maintaining strong community relationships and providing timely feedback on challenges and opportunities, the Livelihood Assistant will play a key role in ensuring successful project implementation on the ground and strengthening the impact of future livelihood initiatives.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day implementation of the livelihoods project: coordinate and follow up on all program activities and ensure they are implemented on time.
- Work on needs assessments and monitoring of local markets to inform project activity modalities.
- Manage and supervise two Community Mobilizers, providing guidance, support, and oversight to ensure quality implementation of field activities.
- lead livelihood outreach and registration with the CMs and ensure accurate data entry of applicants.
- Support the targeting and selection process for identifying project beneficiaries.
- Coordinate trainings and workshops for beneficiaries and project logistics.
- Organize cash distribution events, ensuring adherence to Al-Mahaba Brotherhood and CRS Standard Operating Procedures.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager, Livelihood Expert, and PO-MEAL Lead to develop and implement strong and responsive monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning systems.
- Liaise with Project Manager and Finance teams to support project-related financial activities: prepare payment requests and compile supporting documentation for project payments.
- Regularly advise the project manager and livelihood expert about issues affecting project implementation or key local issues affecting future grants, project developments, or partnerships.
- Adhere at all times to AL-MAHABA BROTHERHOOD Humanitarian Organization policies and procedures and donor regulations
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of reports, success stories, and lessons learned to capture project impact and inform future programming.
- Actively engage with community leaders, local authorities, and other stakeholders to strengthen relationships, ensure transparency, and enhance program acceptance.
- Maintain accurate project records, and filing systems to ensure accountability and facilitate audits and evaluations.
- Identify risks and challenges during implementation and propose practical solutions in coordination with the Project Manager and technical team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. 3 years of related work experience required in an NGO; experience working with the livelihood sector.
- Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams) required.
- Experience monitoring projects and collecting relevant data.
- Strong spoken and written English and Arabic preferred.
- The applicant must not be enrolled in the governmental sector.

Additional Notes:
Travel Required:
The position is based in Al-Muthanna with up to 75% travel to project sites in Al-Muthanna governorate. Occasional travel to Baghdad and/or Erbil for attending meetings or project training, as needed.
