Brief description of the organization
Yazda Iraq is a local organization registered in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It operates as a subsidiary of the global Yazda organization and adheres to the same mission: supporting vulnerable communities, particularly those affected by genocide and mass atrocities. In Iraq/KRI, Yazda implements programs focused on advocacy, legal assistance, humanitarian aid, and community and survivor empowerment initiatives. The Country Director leads these efforts, ensuring they align with organizational goals and respond effectively to local needs.

- Contract Type: 15-month fixed-term with possibility of extension, 20-30 hours a week, flexible working hours.

Purpose of the Role
The Fundraising & Development Manager is responsible for developing and delivering a sustainable fundraising strategy to support Yazda’s mission. This includes identifying, cultivating, and managing relationships with private institutions, foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors. The role combines strategic planning with hands-on fundraising, ensuring consistent growth in funding and meaningful partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with Yazda’s new strategy.
- Set annual fundraising targets and monitor progress against them.
- Research and identify new funding opportunities from private institutions, foundations, and major donors.
- Prepare compelling concept notes, grant applications, and partnership presentations.
2. Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders and donors.
- Develop and implement donor retention strategies to ensure sustained engagement.
- Engage with private sector partners to secure sponsorships, corporate giving, and collaborative initiatives, including corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnerships.
- Negotiate agreements and ensure mutual benefit for both Yazda and its partners.
- Represent Yazda at meetings, events, and networking opportunities to promote its mission and impact.
- Coordinate with the Finance Team to align budgets, forecasts, and donor reporting requirements.
- Maintain ethical fundraising standards and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Oversee donor databases and ensure accurate record-keeping and data protection compliance.
3. Campaign & Event Coordination
- Lead or support fundraising events, campaigns, and digital donations, in collaboration with Yazda comms team.
- Coordinate donor communications, reports, and recognition materials.
- Collaborate with the communications team to align fundraising messages with public outreach and brand storytelling.
- Ensure survivor and community stories are used ethically and respectfully in fundraising materials.
4. Reporting & Accountability
- Provide regular fundraising performance reports to leadership.
- Provide capacity-building support to internal staff to strengthen overall fundraising skills and systems.
- Contribute to organizational strategy discussions with insights on funding opportunities and donor priorities.
- Ensure transparency, integrity, and accountability across all fundraising activities.
- Stay informed about trends in fundraising, philanthropy, and donor engagement.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of proven track record in fundraising, business development, or partnership management.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or International Development (or related field)
- Strong network-building and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English — able to craft persuasive proposals. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
- Strategic thinker with practical execution skills.
- Experience working with CRM or donor management systems.
- Understanding the charity sector, philanthropy, and CSR engagement.
Desirable
- Experience securing institutional or corporate funding.
- Familiarity with grant-making bodies and proposal processes.
- Experience in event-based or digital fundraising
- Background in marketing, communications, or social impact.
