Purpose/objective of the position:
As a legal advisor at the Center, your responsibilities will include providing legal support, reviewing and drafting legal documents, ensuring compliance with regulations, representing the Center in legal proceedings, conducting legal research, collaborating with other departments, managing external counsel, delivering legal training, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to the development and implementation of the Center's legal strategy. You will also be responsible for handling all day-to-day duties related to this role.
Responsibilities include:
1. Providing timely and accurate legal advice and guidance to the Center's management and staff on a variety of legal issues, such as contract law, employment law, intellectual property law, and data protection law.
2. Reviewing and drafting legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and policies, to ensure they are clear, concise, and legally sound.
3. Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies, and making recommendations to management on how to achieve compliance where necessary.
4. Representing the Center in legal proceedings, such as litigation, arbitration, and mediation, and providing strategic advice to management on how to handle disputes effectively.
5. Conducting legal research and staying up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that could impact the Center's operations.
5.Collaborating with other departments, such as human resources and finance, to ensure legal compliance in their respective areas and to provide legal input into key decisions.
6. Managing external legal counsel and negotiating legal fees and terms to ensure the Center receives high-quality legal services at a reasonable cost.
7. Developing and delivering legal training to employees to ensure they are aware of their legal obligations and responsibilities, and to help minimize legal risks for the Center.
8. Maintaining accurate legal records and documentation to support the Center's legal compliance efforts and to help demonstrate the Center's commitment to legal and ethical business practices.
9. Contributing to the development and implementation of the Center's legal strategy and policies, and working closely with senior management to identify legal risks and opportunities.
- In addition to these day-to-day duties, you will also be responsible for all tasks related to this job title, including attending meetings and conferences, networking with other legal professionals, and keeping up-to-date with developments in the legal field. To succeed in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of the law, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Person Specification:
Education and professional experience:
- Bachelor degree in Law and member of Iraq or KRI Lawyers Syndicate.
- Hold a valid bar association ID B or C;
- Minimum two years of relevant professional experience (of which at least 1 year in NGO role)
- Aged 24 - 28 years.
- Prior experience working with government authorities or is a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of the Iraqi legal system and legal procedures.
- Strong knowledge of international protection and human rights legal standards.

- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
