Description

Position: Community Mobilizer 

Reports to: Education Project Manager 

Supervise: Community Outreach Staff 

Duty Station: Erbil

Purpose/objective of the position:

The Community Mobilizer position’s main tasks enhance awareness, engagement, and practical solutions addressing disability inclusion and climate change in schools and communities hosting refugees. The Community Mobilizer will serve as the key link between the project team, schools, and communities to ensure successful participation and implementation of project activities.

Reporting lines:

The Community Mobilizer will report to the Education Project Manager during the implementation of the project activities (line manager).

Specific Duties:

1. Community Engagement & Awareness

o Conduct community inception and consultation sessions to identify needs and priorities.

o Assist in developing materials for awareness-raising sessions on disability inclusion and climate change.

o Facilitate face-to-face awareness sessions with refugees and host community members.

2. Support School Interventions

o Assisting in school needs assessments conducted by PTAs.

o Coordinate with contractors for the delivery of new services and materials.

o Follow up with schools and PTAs to ensure disability inclusion and climate sensitive measures are adopted.

3. Capacity Building & Training Support

o Support identification of facilitators and preparation of training content for PTAs, school management, and community leaders.

o Assist in the facilitation and follow-up of training workshops.

o Facilitate the training on climate change and disability inclusion for Community Outreach Staff, strengthening their capacity to deliver accurate messaging, conduct community sessions, and support inclusive and climate-sensitive initiatives

4. Support Community-Led Initiatives

o Facilitate planning workshops with refugees and host community members.

o Support the implementation of local initiatives focusing on disability inclusion and climate change adaptation.

o Participate in experience-sharing events among communities.

5. Monitoring & Reporting

o Collect data and feedback from participants to assess changes in perceptions of inclusion and awareness levels.

o Maintain updated participant lists and documentation of community activities.

o Prepare monthly and quarterly reports summarizing activities, challenges, and lessons learned.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Competencies: (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Professional Competencies:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, Community Development, Education, or a related field.

Experience as a frontline staff (field staff) is required.

Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in community mobilization with camp and out of camp settings with IDPs, returnees, refugees and host- communities.

Experience with disability inclusion and/or climate change awareness.

Fluency in Arabic and Kurdish. English is an asset.

Computer Skills:

Data entry and presentation.

MS Offices (Excel and word). PowerPoint is an asset.

Ability in analysing data and issue timely structured reports.

Knowledge of the context and of the Education system in KRI.

Knowledge of Child Safeguarding policy and PSEA.

Requirements:

Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, listening and communication skills.

Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team.

Pro-activity and independency.

Flexibility and ability to cope with stressful situations.
