JOB DESCRIPTION

Aid Gate Organization (AGO) seeks a motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Project Officer for a project aimed at enhancing community resilience to climate change in Thi Qar. The project promotes Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA) through innovative practices, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and advocacy for sustainable development. The Project Officer will play a key role in implementing project activities, managing resources, and ensuring the successful delivery of outcomes.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Implementation and Coordination

  • Oversee the implementation of project activities, including capacity-building workshops, community dialogues and media engagement campaigns, ensuring they align with project goals and timelines.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including government departments, academic institutions, community lleaders and other organizations to foster collaboration and support
  • Facilitate the establishment of multi-sectoral platforms to promote dialogue, information exchange and joint planning efforts among diverse stakeholders

Team Building and Management

  • Support and supervise the project team, including facilitators, consultants and outreach staff, ensuring high-quality implementation
  • Manage the project budget, ensuring financial accountability and compliance with AGO policies
  • Monitor spending and provide timely reports on budget utilization

Capacity Building and Advocacy

  • Organize and conduct training sessions in collaboration with Environment based Adaptation experts to build local knowledge on climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management
  • Lead dialogues and exchanges on environmental climate challenges, empowering community members to identify and implement solutions

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Collect and analyze data on project impact, ensuring timely documentation and submission of report
  • Facilitate regular feedback and project-related meetings

Stakeholder Engagement and Representation

  • Represent AGO in local coordination meetings
  • Ensure effective communication between AGO, local authorities and project participants
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Social Sciences or a related field. A master’s degree is an advantage

Experience: minimum 3-5 years in similar positions in national or international organizations

Fluency in Arabic, English is a plus

Knowledge of climate adaptation practices, natural resource management and sustainable livelihoods

Familiarity with participatory approaches to community engagement and advocacy

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to high-quality outputs

Proficiency in data collection, analysis and reporting tools

Familiarity with the environmental context of Thiqar governorate

Willingness to travel to project sites within the governorate
