Job Description:

The Media & Awareness Communication Coordinator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing communication strategies that raise awareness about IID's Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Psychosocial Support (PSS), and education projects. This role ensures all communication activities adhere to IID and donor guidelines, enhancing the visibility of IID projects. The coordinator will also focus on media and technical awareness within IID's IT communications, design and manage the IID media website, and demonstrate professional photography, video design, and montage capabilities. The coordinator will work closely with the PDQ Coordinator and Program Manager to align communication efforts with project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans for MHPSS/PSS and education projects.
  • Identify target audiences and tailor communication strategies to effectively reach and engage them.
  • Collaborate with program teams to integrate communication efforts with project activities.

Content Creation and Management:

  • Create, curate, and manage content for various communication channels, including social media, website, newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Ensure all content is consistent with IID’s brand, messaging guidelines, and donor requirements.

Media and Technical Awareness:

  • Focus on media and technical awareness within IID's IT communications.
  • Design and manage the IID media website to ensure it is user-friendly, visually appealing, and up-to-date.
  • Demonstrate professional capabilities in photography, video design, and montage to create compelling visual content.

Media Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other PR materials.
  • Coordinate and manage media inquiries and interviews.

Social Media and Digital Engagement:

  • Manage IID’s social media accounts, developing and posting content regularly.
  • Monitor social media trends and analytics to improve engagement and reach.
  • Implement online campaigns and manage the organization’s digital presence.

Public Outreach and Advocacy:

  • Organize and participate in events, workshops, and seminars to promote awareness of MHPSS/PSS and education initiatives.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials and resources.
  • Represent IID at public forums, conferences, and events.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication activities.
  • Prepare reports on communication efforts and suggest improvements based on data and feedback.

Other:

  • Adhere to IID principles and values, promoting gender justice and women's rights.
  • Commit to equity, diversity, gender, child safety, and staff health and wellbeing principles.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Media, Design, communications, Journalism, Public Relations, IT, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role, preferably within the NGO sector.
  • Proven experience in managing social media platforms and digital campaigns.
  • Experience in media relations and content creation.
  • Experience with MHPSS/PSS and education projects is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in communication tools and software, including social media management tools, graphic design software, and content management systems.
  • Familiarity with donor guidelines and compliance requirements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of MHPSS/PSS and education issues in conflict-affected areas.
  • Experience working in humanitarian settings, particularly in Iraq.
  • Skills in graphic design and video production.
  • Professional capability in photography and video montage.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written and visual content.
