Description

The MEAL Assistant will be a part of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) unite, supporting implementation of the overall Iraq MEAL Strategy. He/she will assist the MEAL team with activities, including data collection, database management, the MEAL Assistant will support all efforts for promoting a high level of beneficiary accountability, and will assist in manage the feedback mechanism. The MEAL Assistant will work closely with the Senior MEAL Officer and projects staff in WCUK’s area of operation to support Central and Southern Iraq MEAL activities as needed.

Your role

This is a national position based in WCUK’s Central and South Iraq Office (Baghdad). The position of MEAL Assistant will be a major contribution to the implementation transparency and organizational support of the data flow and implementation timing. The MEAL Assistant will work closely with the Area Coordinator, Senior MEAL Assistant, Project Officers, and other project team members to ensure consistency in data collection, operate accountability mechanisms, roll out MEAL methodologies, and consolidate data for reporting and means of verification.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Conduct community visits, focus group discussions with beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries to receive feedback on War Child UK Programmes.
  • Manage feedback received and ensuring a timely and appropriate follow-up if needed.
  • Entering data and sharing findings with Senior MEAL Officer.
  • Help collect data needed for the Output Tracker and support with data collection processes if needed.
  • Support programmes with conducting assessments as needed, facilitate focus groups and other qualitative data collection exercises.
  • Conduct field monitoring visits as appropriate to ensure the project implementation quality.
  • Work closely with field staff to collect data and implement activities to support beneficiary accountability and oversight of FCRM at base level.
  • Support with data cleaning and analysing.
  • Monitoring activities and reporting at base level.
  • Oversight of proper documentation and record keeping on base level to make sure that the archive system is up to date.
  • Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained.
  • Contribute to create a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults as clarified in WCUK’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Skills, knowledge, and experience for the role:

 

  • Minimum 3 years of Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, computer science, project management or related field.
  • Understanding of monitoring, evaluation and learning and its role within project development and implementation is a must
  • Understanding of the Project management cycle and Log frames is a must
  • IT literate with particularly strong skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in collecting quantitative and qualitative data, experience in Kobo is an advantage.
  • Experience of working with refugees, IDPs and other vulnerable communities 
  • Knowledge of basic statistical methods and confident in applying these to large data sets 
  • Working knowledge of English (written and Verbal) is a must. Arabic language skills are also important.
  • Good coordination and organisational skills 
  • previous relevant work experience on projects related to youth development, Livelihoods, and civic engagement and is an advantage
