Project Description:
MH is implementing a livelihood project, funded by UNDP, in the city of Basra. The fourth output of this project aims at increasing social cohesion by setting up two capacity-building workshops for local government officials and public and private sector actors on eco-sustainable tourism and cultural heritage protection as well as two town hall meetings to promote social cohesion. In order to implement such activities, MH is looking for two community mobilizers who will be in charge of organizing and managing social cohesion events.
Position Description
The community mobilizers are responsible for promoting social cohesion and building network and relationships between local communities, governorate and municipality officials. They will be responsible to facilitate the town hall meetings, advocate at the level of the governorate and municipality to adopt the practices that were agreed upon during the town hall meetings and will participate in the capacity building workshops for the local government, public-sector and private-sector actors.
Responsibilities:
- Before the town hall meetings, meeting with community representative to get an idea of the questions and concerns they would like to discuss with the government officials
- Meeting with government officials to prepare them for the town hall meetings
- Developing an agenda for the town hall meetings
- Facilitating the dialogue during town hall meetings and manage the events
- Encouraging participants of the town hall meetings to create a watchdog group to monitor the actions of the relevant stakeholders and especially the occurrence of any illegal activity
- Along with other Mercy Hands’ staff, ensuring the liaison between the beneficiaries and the other stakeholders
- Participating in the two capacity building workshops and give an introduction on sustainable tourism and cultural heritage protection
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education: High school diploma. Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant topic preferred.
Minimum Experience: Previous working experience in humanitarian/recovery contexts and previous experience in community mobilization.
- Working knowledge of both Arabic and English, written and spoken
- Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people
- Ability to follow instructions clearly to achieve desired results
- Strong Organizational skills
- Advocacy and coordination skills
