The Project officer (Agriculture Engineering) will support the implementation of Fig sapling tree chain activities to enhance livelihoods and food security for project beneficiaries. The role involves providing technical support, capacity-building, and management assistance to individuals or groups engaged in the Fig sapling tree chain, ensuring the sustainable production of Fig and other agricultural-related products. The officer will work closely with local communities to improve skills, productivity, and market access. The position holder will be responsible for project planning, implementation, and reporting, including coordination with local authorities, and communities, registration and selection of beneficiaries, and completion of project according to set goals and objectives.
Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Implementation
Assist in the design and implementation of Fig sapling tree chain project activities in line with the project’s overall objectives. - Provide technical support and training to beneficiaries in all aspects of Fig sapling tree chain.
- Assist with the distribution of Fig sapling tree chain (e.g., Fig tree and tools) to target communities.

Capacity Building and Training
- Develop and deliver practical training sessions on modern and traditional Fig techniques to enhance productivity and quality of Fig tree.
- Build the capacity of local farmers in areas such as tools management, disease prevention, harvesting techniques, and product diversification.
- Foster forming and developing farmers groups and cooperatives to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and improved market access.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor Fig sapling tree chain activities and provide technical guidance to ensure successful project implementation.
- Collect and analyze data on fig productivity, tree condition, and beneficiary satisfaction.
- Prepare regular reports on project progress, challenges, outcomes, and lessons learned.
Product Development and Marketing
- Support beneficiaries in processing and packaging Fig and other Fig products to meet quality standards for local and international markets.
- Facilitate linkages between farmers and potential buyers, cooperatives, and other market actors to enhance income generation.
- Assist with product diversification (e.g., Figs and Jam) and value addition to increase profitability.
Community Mobilization and Awareness
- Conduct community outreach and awareness-raising campaigns to promote the benefits of Fig sapling tree chain as a sustainable livelihood.
- Engage with local stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to gain community support for project activities.
- Ensure the inclusion of women, youth, and marginalized groups in project activities, encouraging their participation in Fig sapling tree chain as a viable livelihood option.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Coordinate with local government authorities DoLSA, DoA, JCF, NGOs, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with local Fig sapling tree chain initiatives and policies.
- Work closely with other project teams in same area to integrate Fig sapling tree chain into broader livelihood strategies.
- Participate in relevant meetings, forums, and working groups related to sustainable livelihoods and Fig sapling tree chain.
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- Certification or specialized training in the sapling tree chain and Fig sapling tree chain is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in implementing Fig sapling tree chain or livelihoods projects, preferably within an NGO or community development context.
- Experience working with rural or marginalized communities in Fig sapling tree chain and sustainable livelihood programs.
- Familiarity with both traditional and modern Fig sapling tree chain practices and tools.
- Strong technical knowledge of Fig sapling tree chain, including tools management, tree condition, and value-added processing.
- Excellent training and facilitation skills, with experience in capacity-building for rural farmers or communities.
- Knowledge of Fig sapling tree chain-related diseases and prevention methods.
- Good understanding of value chains, marketing strategies, and income generation related to Fig sapling tree chain and Fig products.
- Proficiency in data collection, project reporting, and monitoring of agricultural or livelihood projects.
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform; willing to travel to the project locations in Nineveh.
- Punctuality and respect for rules and procedures.
- Must be able to maintain highest level of confidentiality regarding work-related information and data.
- Excellent coordination and analytical skills. Experience in conflict resolution and problem solving is an asset.
- Experience in project management, planning, and reporting.
- Ability to work with diverse communities and manage relationships with stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis.
- Willingness to work in rural and remote locations and travel extensively to project sites.
Commitment to working in line with humanitarian principles and practices, including gender-sensitive and inclusive approaches.
Very good computer skills in Microsoft office and any other system will be a plus.
Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English Ability to communicate in English to at least an Intermediate level. Additional languages are a bonus.
