Brief description of the organization

Yazda Iraq is a local organization registered in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It operates as a subsidiary of the global Yazda organization and adheres to the same mission: supporting vulnerable communities, particularly those affected by genocide and mass atrocities. In Iraq/KRI, Yazda implements programs focused on advocacy, legal assistance, humanitarian aid, and community and survivor empowerment initiatives. The Country Director leads these efforts, ensuring they align with organizational goals and respond effectively to local needs.

Background

The Yazda Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) Project provides integrated primary healthcare services—including non-communicable disease (NCD) and mental health (MH) care—to conflict-affected populations in Sinjar. The project operates in coordination with the Ninewa Directorate of Health (DoH) and supported by Stichting Vluchteling (SV). The MMU Nurse plays a key role in ensuring high-quality service delivery, adherence to medical protocols, and coordination between the field medical team and Yazda’s central health management.

Job Purpose

The MMU Nurse is responsible for supporting physicians in providing clinical services, managing patient care, conducting health education sessions, and ensuring that medicines and medical supplies are appropriately handled and recorded. The Nurse also collaborates closely with the Mental Health Counselor, Community Health Officer, and Pharmacist to provide holistic patient-centered care.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Assist medical doctors in patient examinations, diagnosis, and treatment.
  2. Record vital signs and ensure accurate documentation of patient data in MMU registers.
  3. Support NCD and MH screening according to Yazda and WHO protocols.
  4. Prepare and administer prescribed medications under supervision.
  5. Participate in health education and awareness sessions with community members.
  6. Coordinate with the Pharmacy Officer to ensure proper stock management and consumption reporting.
  7. Support data collection, reporting, and quality assurance activities.
  8. Maintain infection prevention and control (IPC) standards and ensure cleanliness of the MMU site.
  9. Provide first aid and emergency response when required.
  10. Participate in training, supervision, and other capacity-building activities as assigned
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing (recognized by the Ministry of Health).
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in primary healthcare or humanitarian projects.
  • Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of NCD management, MH first aid, and patient-centered care.
  • Language: Proficiency in Arabic and Kurdish (Kurmanji); English is an asset.
  • Other Skills: Strong teamwork, empathy, communication, and data recording accuracy.
  • Preferred: Experience working in the Sinjar District or with Yazda/MMU projects.
