Description

PURPOSE OF DIVISION:

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international relief and development charity that envisages a caring world where people unite to respond to the suffering of others, empowering them to fulfil their potential. We are an independent Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in the UK in 1984.  Working in 40 countries, we promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and disease. We also respond to disasters and emergencies, helping people in crisis. Islamic Relief provides support regardless of religion, ethnicity, or gender and without expecting anything in return.

 Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) has been working in Iraq for more than 20 years. IRW-Iraq was amongst the few aid agencies those were on the ground since 2003. Islamic Relief Worldwide Iraq is implementing several projects in the sector of livelihoods, WASH, Education, and Protection.

 

  1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASK(S):

 

Under the supervision of the Project Officer and in coordination with the Programmes Department, the Media Intern will support efforts to enhance the visibility of Islamic Relief’s humanitarian and development projects. The intern will assist in collecting, producing, and disseminating multimedia content that reflects the impact of IRW’s work on the lives of affected communities in Iraq.

 

  1. Main Tasks Include:

 

  • Assist in the collection and editing of photos, videos, and testimonials from project sites;
  • Support the development of human-interest stories and social media content in English, Kurdish, and Arabic (as applicable);
  • Design flyers, newsletters, and infographics for donor visibility and public outreach.
  • Manage and update the photo and video archive of the organization.
  • Assist in planning and covering media events, campaigns, and awareness-raising activities.
  • Draft short reports, success stories, and visibility pieces for online and offline publications.
  • Collaborate with field teams to ensure ethical storytelling and informed consent.
  • Support the preparation of digital and printed publications (project factsheets, brochures, banners).
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Communications and Programme teams.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  1. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
  • Bachelor’s degree or ongoing studies in Media, Communications, Journalism, Computer, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in media production, journalism, or NGO communications (volunteer or paid).
  • Strong writing, photography, and videography skills.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Canva).
  • Excellent command of English and Kurdish (Arabic is an asset).
  • Good understanding of humanitarian and development themes.
  • Under the age of 30.

 

  1. DESIRABLE:
  • Experience with managing social media platforms and content calendars.
  • Understanding of ethical media practices, data protection, and safeguarding.
