Brief description of the organization

Yazda Iraq is a local organization registered in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It operates as a subsidiary of the global Yazda organization and adheres to the same mission: supporting vulnerable communities, particularly those affected by genocide and mass atrocities. In Iraq/KRI, Yazda implements programs focused on advocacy, legal assistance, humanitarian aid, and community and survivor empowerment initiatives. The Country Director leads these efforts, ensuring they align with organizational goals and respond effectively to local needs.

 

Background:

The Human Resource Department at Yazda is a function performed within an organization that facilitates the most effective use of employees to achieve organizational and departmental goals. Managing the daily tasks related to HR, such as staff contracts, timesheets and attendance, Performance evaluations, staff salaries, and staff benefits.  

 

Job Purpose:

The HR Officer will support the HR department in recruitment, employee data management, payroll procedures, and archiving. The HRA does this under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, in line with the Yazda HR Policy and Iraqi Labor Law.

 

Main Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of Yazda’s Operations Manager, the HR Officer is expected to fulfill the following tasks:

  • Assist in drafting and posting job advertisements, scheduling interviews, and managing communication with candidates.
  • Prepare onboarding documents and facilitate orientation for new hires.
  • Maintain and update employee files and HR databases/trackers.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of employment contracts, attendance, and leave balances.
  • Support the Operations Manager in implementing and enforcing the HR policies and procedures of Yazda.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with local labor laws and Yazda policies.
  • Prepare HR reports and documentation as requested by the Operations Manager.
  • Coordinate staff training sessions, workshops, and performance evaluations.
  • Assist in organizing staff events and team-building activities.
  • Address employee queries and direct unresolved issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Support initiatives to foster a positive work environment and employee engagement.
  • Ensure the induction briefing of the new employees.
  • Responsible for documenting recruitment processes, contracts, amendments, and extensions, with all documents stored and scanned into SharePoint for backup, and organizing the staff's filing folders.
  • Responsible for preparing payslips for staff salaries.
  • Responsible for coordinating timesheets with project managers to ensure accurate tracking of staff attendance. 
  • Responsible for regularly archiving staff files in SharePoint. 

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • Minimum three years of relevant professional experience in an HR or administrative role.
  • A diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with HR practices, labor laws, and compliance standards.
  • Fluency in Arabic, English, and Kurmanji (speaking and writing) required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with Outlook and SharePoint.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Certifications or prior training in HR are advanced.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and diverse environment.
