Description

Position : Field Assistant

Duty Station: Anbar / Haditha 

Job purpose:

The Field Assistant provides a vital link between National and International members of staff through interpretation and translation support, as well as facilitating the movement of Technical Field Managers within their Areas of Responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

General responsibilities:

  • Work within the framework of NPA core values
  • Adhere to all NPA policies, regulations and procedures, including those specific to the department (Operations SOPs) as well as NPA Iraq HR Policy, Confidentiality policy, Safeguarding policy, NPA Driving Policy, amongst others.
  • Maintain and care for all equipment issued by NPA and for any loss or damage, being liable for repair or replacement in case of damage resulting from negligence.
  • Follow all verbal and/or written instructions, unless in direct violation of safety and duty of care
  • Ensure a safe workplace and protect all staff and equipment from damage/ injury.
  • Specific duties:
  • To provide clear and accurate spoken interpretations between NPA TFMs and non-English speaking persons to include NPA national staff, local authorities, key community focal points, security forces, and others.
  • Provide short written translations from English to Arabic, Arabic to English, of technical NPA documents, Government letters/documents or general administrative matters.
  • Assist team leaders & site supervisors in the translation of daily/monthly/completion reports.
  • Translation of task implementation plans, IMSMA completion, IMSMA Technical Survey and other reports as required and tasked by the TFMs.
  • Responsible for driving and daily maintenance of the assigned vehicle for transport of authorized personnel, delivery and collection of equipment, stores, documents and any other items as required.
  • Ensure assigned vehicle is prepared daily for deployment including the necessary tool kits, communication and satellite tracking checks.
  • Maintain daily vehicle logs and provide input to vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Comply with NPAs vehicle policy and ensure that the driving rules of the Government of Iraq are adhered to at all times.
  • Any other duties as tasked by management.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Required qualifications:

Must have:

  • High school qualification and/or a diploma.
  • Valid driving license (authorized for both manual and automatic transmission).
  • Verbal & written proficiency in Arabic and English.
  • In-depth knowledge of core MS Office application, Word, Outlook Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Residency in Haditha of Anbar governorate.

Desirable:

  • Demining/BAC course.
  • Experience in working with NGOs.
  • Previous proven interpreting experience.

Personal Competencies:

  • An individual with excellent interpersonal skills that can work well under, and adapt, to difficult conditions.
  • Must have a willingness to adjust working hours due to operational commitments and have the capacity to travel within the country.
  • Trustworthy and responsive to realistic requests and constructive feedback.
  • Able to work within the limits of the role with a high level of independence.
