Description

Responsibilities
1. Translation:
• Translate all kinds of MAG Iraq’s documents in relation to SG from English into Kurdish and Arabic and vice versa.
• Translate all kinds of MAG Iraq’s correspondences with the Federal Iraq government and KRG’s offices and authorities from English into Kurdish and Arabic and vice versa.
• Provide oral translation (interpretation) support during training courses, meetings/investigations, and events and take notes, when and if required.

2. Safeguarding:
Safeguarding culture and awareness:
• Conduct safeguarding training in order to raise awareness of what safeguarding is and the expected behaviors of MAG personnel. This will include conducting induction training (with HR), refresher training for all staff and support to the Community Liaison (CL) teams on awareness raising with communities and other role specific training as required.
• Support the publication, dissemination and implementation of safeguarding policies, procedures and good practice.

 

Safeguarding reporting:
• Support the management of reporting mechanisms at all levels and for those who come into contact with our work (including all staff at all locations, communities (with the CL team), partners and suppliers).
• Manage reporting mechanisms such as: the safeguarding hotline and email address according to MAG guidelines; receiving concerns in a empathetic way; and identifying next steps in the absence of the SGC
• Support the safeguarding focal points in programme, provide training and ongoing support.

Duty of care and support to staff/complainants:
• Provide proactive support to MAG staff on personal and welfare issues across the programme by identifying practical support such as external professional advice in the area of wellbeing.
Investigations:
• Support the SGM and SGC in response to assigned allegations/raised concerns and assist with the planning, management and support to investigations related to safeguarding.
• Act as a note taker and translator during investigations relating to safeguarding; supporting interviews and writing transcripts.
This job description must remain flexible to respond to additional tasks or changes as identified by the line manager. Other duties as directed, in accordance with the MAG Iraq program’s requirements.

Person Selection Criteria:
The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
• Experience in working in the similar role or in protection field, with minimum of 3 years.
• Experience in conducting internal administrative investigations.
• Experience in training and support of a diverse cross-cultural organizations.
• Capacity to establish rapport and trust to be effective in the role.
• High level of confidentiality
• An understanding of NGOs and a commitment to humanitarian work.
• An excellent command of spoken and written English.
• An excellent command of spoken and written Arabic and Kurdish Sorani (and preferably Badini as well).
• Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Office programs.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Administrative skills and ability to take minutes of meetings and notes.
• High level of self-motivation.
• Good active listener.
• Experience and interest in working in the field of safeguarding.
• Ability and willingness to travel, sometimes with the programme sites at a short notice
