Action Against Hunger is looking for a One (1) FSL Hygiene Promoter in Basra.
Work place: Basra with frequent visits to ACF areas of interventions.
Type of contract: Initially three (3) months Fixed-Term contract with the possibility of extension.
Working Hours: Full Time Contract of minimum 40 hours per week up to a maximum of 48 hours per week
Monthly Basic Salary: Action Against Hunger provide competitive salary according to ACF salary grid.

Purpose of The Position:
Define the content, organize and deliver the hygiene promotion program for target populations
Specific Objectives:
Objective 1: Implement the hygiene promotion strategy
The Hygiene Promoter is responsible for the following:
- Organize sessions in the targeted area to identify the deficiencies in terms of hygiene, sanitation and the use of water;
- Prepare and organize sessions in the schools in term of personal hygiene, handwashing, COVID-19 prevention, menstrual hygiene, etc.
- Organize/facilitate awareness sessions regarding personal hygiene practices for men/women in identified locations;
- Participate in preparing training modules for the promotion of hygiene with the supervisor;
- Create hygiene promotion tools;
- Participate in developing teaching tools adapted to various levels of the population: songs, games, meetings, training, etc.;
- Participate in evaluation/assessment missions;
Objective 2: Train and mobilize the Hygiene promotion volunteers
The Hygiene Promoter is responsible for the following:
- Liaise with the authorities, committees and other beneficiaries ;
- Identify the privileged partners within the communities: schools, hospitals, clinics, mosques, etc;
- Participate in identifying the targeted population and areas;
- Apply the methodologies defined for the sensitizing sessions on hygiene promotion;
- Participate in elaborating a schedule of awareness raising activities;
- Provide training sessions to HP volunteers and/or to targeted populations;
- Write a summary of the activity reports;
- Propose possible improvements.
Objective 3: Prepare and conduct the distributions
The Hygiene Promoter is responsible for the following:
- Participate in the organization and in the implementation of the distribution (leaflets, posters, kits, etc.) and Post Distribution Monitoring surveys;
- Participate in the organization and the distribution of surprise soaps, cleaning kits, etc.
- Intervene in case of dispute;
- Suggest possible improvements in hygiene promotion program.
Objective 4: Relay ACF activities and objectives to the communities and partners
The Hygiene Promoter is responsible for the following:
- Develop contacts and explain to stakeholders and to targeted populations the activities and the objectives of the programs;
- Represent the organization with the beneficiaries with the agreement of the hierarchical supervisor;
- Under the delegation of the line manager and Field Co ; Inform relevant local authorities about all aspects of the programs;
- Respect ACF charter;
- Involve and inform the communities in the implementation of the program;
- Work in collaboration with the stakeholders.
Recruitment Criteria:
Qualification/Degree: |
Degree in social studies or equivalent training/experience in related field, familiarity with different hygiene activities |
Professional Experience |
At least 1 year of professional experience in Hygiene promotion field work with NGO (Awareness activities…) |
Technical Skills |
Pedagogical skills –Knowledge about local area of intervention, good user of Microsoft office package (word, excel, etc.) |
General Skills Managerial Skills (if applicable) |
Good Capacity to communicate with people, Good team Spirit, Good Analytical capacity, Good Human relations, Good physical condition, good reporting skills – Rigour – Meticulous |
Language Skills |
Spoken proficiency in Arabic is essential Spoken and written English is a plus |
Other Requirements |
Very good Knowledge in Microsoft software: Word and Excel |
