our team

Gender team is aimed to work with Oxfam team in Diyala governorate to ensure gender stand alone and mainstreaming across the program. The post holder will collaboratively work with program team comprised project manager, project officersand the programme management to provide support on implementing advocacy and gender initiatives within the project in Diyala. The position will be supervised by the program manager and technically supported by the project manager and the gender and policy coordinator at at country level.

As part of the Oxfam Gender Justice team in Iraq, the Advocacy and Campaigns Officer will be responsible for supporting activities under the project “Women and Girls Rebuilding a New Iraq” in Kirkuk and Diyala governorates.

key responsibilities

 

Technical Programme implementation and monitoring

  • Work closely with gender officers in the continued implementation of gender justice programming activities in Diyala governorates to advance advocacy work.
  • Identify key Women’s Rights Organisations, Women rights activists, social media activists, women leaders and existing networks of WROs that the project can partner with and support to implement advocacy and campaigns at all levels.
  • Under the guidance of the project management and Gender and Policy Coordinator together with Policy, Advocacy, and Communications (PAC) department, support the development of the advocacy IEC materials for different project outputs to enhance the visibility of the project.
  • Facilitate the creation of links between existing community committees/structures with other project stakeholders including key interlocutors.
  • Contribute to the documentation of advocacy and campaign work with WROs, by contributing to the development of different products (such as videos, infographics, blog posts, etc.)
  • Work closely with the Gender and Policy Coordinator together with the Policy, Advocacy, and Communications department to ensure that all advocacy work is in line with GJ influencing objectives and overall Oxfam in Iraq influencing objectives, and aligns with Oxfam’s regional and global campaigns including #iMatter and Enough!

Partners’ support and capacity building

  • Support preparations of advocacy and campaign training with WROs, WROs networks and alliances, women leaders and other community groups.
  • Follow up advocacy and campaign plans from partners and WRO networks to ensure that local advocacy bolsters these actions where relevant.
  • Participate in project coordination mechanisms to inform partners, WRO networks and other stakeholders about advocacy work.
  • With guidance from the project manager, facilitate exchange learning between WROs, partners and other project stakeholders;

Gender mainstreaming in Oxfam programming

  • Attend relevant meetings on promoting gender equality, such as the GBV Task force meetings.
  • Participate in gender analyses and other gender-specific assessments for programming and advocacy.
  • Support the inclusion of gender equality interventions into all aspects of Oxfam Iraq programme planning, implementation and reviews.
  • Participate in organizing and facilitating training and sensitization sessions on the linkages between advocacy and gender for staff, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Frequent travel to the field is required for this position.
  • Required to adhere to Oxfam’s principles and values, including the promotion of gender justice.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of equality of all people, protection of vulnerable groups and wellbeing.

 

Reporting & Project support

  • Together with staff in the Gender Justice team, prepare weekly updates, monthly and quarterly progress reports for donors and other external use.
  • Engage in continuous review and flag out any challenges in following project work plans. Proactively suggest solutions for improvement to the Project Manager to address identified challenges.
  • Support translation and interpretation from English to Kurdish, English to Arabic, Arabic to Kurdish and vice versa when needed.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Essential - Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications & Competencies

University/College qualification in the relevant field (e.g. Gender or development studies, social sciences or related discipline) or equivalent experience.

Experience in working in the humanitarian or development sector.

Experience in working with/supporting local partners and volunteers.

Demonstrated interest to develop an understanding and practice of advocacy and campaigning.

Good oral and written communication skills in English, Kurdish and Arabic.

Knowledge and skills in computer usage specially Microsoft office programme (Work, excel and PowerPoint)

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to think innovatively and operate strategically.
