VACANCY: Psychologist 2 (Mental Health Psychosocial Support Field Officer)

Job Title: Psychologist 2 (MHPSS field officer)

Level: B2

Duty Station: Iraq – Mosul Sub-Delegation

Reports to: MHPSS Delegate

Duration of Contract: One-year fixed term contract (with the possibility of renewal to an open-ended contract where performance and competencies are key to be selected for further contractual continuity)

Objective:

The term ‘mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) describes a wide range of activities undertaken by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to address the psychosocial, psychological, and psychiatric problems caused or exacerbated by conflict. 

Psychologist 2 implements Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities as defined in collaboration with the relevant coordinator at local and national levels. S/he provides support to victims of armed conflict and/or other situations of violence. In some contexts, this position could manage pre-established national-level MHPSS programs.

To ensure the work of the Mosul sub-delegation is managed efficiently and effectively in line with the established guidelines; you will need to be an enthusiastic, flexible, committed, and resourceful colleague. The successful candidate will need to deliver to a high standard, be resilient, and have a positive “can-do” attitude. Furthermore, he/she will:

• In collaboration with the MHPSS delegate coordinate the activities to ensure program implementation according to the project document in Mosul sub-delegation.

• Actively participate in the identification of needs and target populations for MHPSS intervention.

• Conduct training to the Primary Health Care (PHC’s health staff), volunteers, or external actors with support from the MHPSS delegate.

• Identify gaps in the competencies and training needs of PHC’s staff in charge of the MHPSS program and other external actors.

• Support the MHPSS delegate in organizing and facilitating mental health/Phsyco Social Support “PSS” training.

• Provide ongoing supervision and support for PHC’s personnel (and community actors) to consolidate the knowledge and skills gained during training through regular visits, case discussion, accompaniment, and observation visits.

• Support PHC’s staff in charge of the MHPSS program in the clinical assessment (diagnosis, treatment plan and follow-up) of beneficiaries identified.

• Organize the referral of beneficiaries.

• Ensure that all MHPSS activities are carried out under adequate and appropriate supervision to maintain the quality of the program.

• Maintain beneficiaries’ files following international standards. Ensure all information is kept confidential and clinical records and is kept securely and written respectfully.

• In collaboration with the delegate ensure that appropriate tools to monitor the program’s effectiveness, relevance and appropriateness are in place.

• Participate in all administrative procedures for the implementation of projects. Must get all necessary approvals and link up with Administration and Logistics for follow up on the projects.

• Maintain contacts with relevant authorities and external actors working in the field of MHPSS to facilitate coordination and smooth program implementation.

Education and Professional Experience required:

• University degree in PSYCHOLOGY.
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a similar function.
• Experienced in training and supervision.
• Strong sense of responsibility and adaptability, able to work overtime when needed.
• Flexibility and ability to work independently and with a sense of initiative.
• Highly developed analytical, planning, communication, and organizing skills.
• Fluent command (spoken and written) of English, and Arabic.
• Flexibility to do overnight field trips.
