Brief description of the organization
Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State (“IS”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria. Since its inception, Yazda has worked with local and international partners to provide Yazidi survivors, IDPs, and refugees with humanitarian, accountability, and advocacy services in their post-genocide recovery. Yazda has been working in Iraq since October 2014 and operates out of the main offices in Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and out of the Sinoni office in Sinjar in Nineveh Province. Yazda is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States and is registered in Erbil, Baghdad, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, and Australia.
Requirements:
Minimum experience: Minimum three years of relevant professional experience as a project manager or in a similar position in an NGO. Experience working with survivors.
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in law, social sciences, project management or any relevant field.
Required travel: Regular travel to Sinjar and other locations in Iraq
Responsibilities and tasks:
Under the supervision of Yazda’s Program Coordinator, the Project Manager is expected to fulfill the following tasks:
- In coordination with the project’s staff and a group of consultants, develop the ‘Know Your Rights’ training program for advocates and survivors of ISIL. The program will focus on training advocates and survivors on ethical engagement with the media, advocacy, transitional justice and gender-based violence.
- In coordination with advocates and survivors and Yazda’s communication team, develop three awareness campaigns on transitional justice, gender-based violence, ethical engagement with survivors and financial literacy.
- Manage a team of people with diverse backgrounds based in Duhok and Sinjar, while ensuring a positive working environment.
- Coordinate and supervise a team of national and international consultants in developing the content of the training and the awareness campaigns.
- Manage the project’s budget and ensure the respect of donors’ requirements.
- Ensure all the targets are met in time and the activities are impactful, survivors-centered, and trauma-informed.
- Lead and coordinate the drafting of all donors' reports.
- Lead the drafting of social media posts related to the project and the project’s objective.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with survivors, knowledge of survivors-centered and trauma-informed approaches. Absolute respect of confidentiality and informed consent.
- Good managerial skills and ability to manage a team with diverse staff from different backgrounds and working from different locations.
- Experience in project management and budget management.
- Experience in drafting donors’ reports.
- Excellent planning skills.
- Fluent in English (writing and speaking).
- Fluency in Arabic and/or Kurmanji preferred.
