Description

FSD stands for Fondation Suisse de Déminage”(Swiss Foundation for Mine Action). FSD is a non-profit organization in the legal form of a foundation, which is under the control of Ministry of Interior of the Government of Switzerland. FSD is based and registered in Geneva, Switzerland.

FSD was founded in 1997 by private Swiss citizens who were concerned about the effects of landmines and unexploded ordnance on the poor and vulnerable people in conflict affected areas of the world.

The objective of FSD is to eliminate explosive remnants of war and toxic waste so that people can live in a safe environment.  The mission of FSD and its objectives are described in the statutes.

FSD is governed by a Foundation Board, including the President and at least four volunteer members.

The Foundation Board defines the strategy and follows closely the development and operations of the organization.

The Director General manages the resources of the organization, appoints the key staff at headquarters (HQ) and program and project managers.  He coordinates the two heads of operations and oversees the development of new activities and contracts.

The Director General reports to the Board of Trustees and the President.

The Deputy Director General replaces the Director General during his absence, and is directly responsible for fundraising, human resources, communications and the Risk Fund.

The Head of Operations oversees the operations of FSD in general and is HQ lead for Iraq.

All aspects of the work (financial, logistical, operational, etc.) of FSD in Iraq are the responsibility of the PM/Country Director.  The PM is appointed by the Geneva HQ and reports directly to the Head of Operations.

FSD was registered as an NGO in the Kurdish Region of Iraq (KR-I) in January 2015.  Work began on an IEDD and BT clearance project on 01 October 2015 within KR-I.  FSD was first accredited with the Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Agency on 20th December 2015.  FSD received its Federal Iraq Registration on 20th February 2018
