Following the end of hostilities against ISIS, the return of millions of Iraqis is threatened by the large presence of harsh conditions in areas of return. The work of Return and Recovery Unit (RRU) within IOM Iraq is to improve the conditions for sustainable recovery across 15 governorates through rehabilitation of community infrastructure, livelihood assistance, community engagement, and other support aiming to facilitate sustainable solutions to the internal displacement crisis in Iraq.

Under the general guidance of Head, Return and Recovery Unit, the Overall supervision of Programme Officer (RRU) and the direct supervision of RRU National Communications Officer, the successful candidate will perform the following duties:

Core Functions / Responsibilities

1. Translate from English to Kurdish, and vice-versa, a full range of documents, reports, formal texts, manuscripts, official correspondence, publications and other material, as given to the incumbent by programme officers.

2. Develop an RRU specific vocabulary manual to streamline consistency in translation.

3. Produce accurate and complete versions in the target language using the most appropriate range of vocabulary and the commonly accepted or established equivalents of professional, scientific or technical concepts and terms.

4. Review and proof-read content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax.

5. Ensure the content style is in conformity with IOM media standards.

6. Adjusting content for design features, such as hierarchy of headings, to guide the design team.

7. Stay abreast of latest media trends and content best practices.

8. Assist in verifying appropriate gender awareness in all IOM communications.

9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Education:

• University degree in literature, translation, languages or a relevant field from an accredited academic university or institute.

Experience and Skills:

• At least three years of professional translation experience.
• Layout and formatting skills in Microsoft Office applications

Languages:

• Fluency in English, Kurdish (Sorani) and Arabic are required
• Fluency in Kurdish (Badini) is an advantage.
