Description

Main purpose of the job:

Provide verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (medical round, consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and local population.

Accountabilities:

-             Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people.

-             Participante in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter.

-             Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.

-             Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.

-             Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).

-             Keep record of all translated documents.

-             Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF

-             Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.

MSFCH Context Specific Accountabilities:

-             Assist translation with caretakers patients.

-             Translation of administration documents upon request

-             Do the translation during meetings, individual discussions, and training sessions.

-             Accompany the team in different locations inside Mosul to support the verbal and written communication.

-             Assist the medical staff in contextualized conversation and provide the culturally advices hide in the oral / verbal language.

-             Good behaviour and respectful ways of communication.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Specific requirements for the role:

               Applicants          -             Female candidates ONLY

               Education            -             Essential BA degree in Translation or English linguistics / literature

-             Desirable health knowledge background

               Experience          -             Essential: minimum 1-year experience in translation field,

-             Desirable: previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s

               Languages                         -             Essential: Fluency in English (minimum B2 Level) and Arabic languages

-             Essential: Proficiency in specific medical terminology and vocabulary

               Competencies & Skills    -             Results and details oriented, teamwork, flexibility, commitment, service oriented and stress management, Strong interpersonal skills

-             Essential: basic computer skills
