For those in need! Dorcas has been working in Iraq since 2014 in humanitarian and development initiatives to support vulnerable populations affected by conflict and displacement. Their work focuses on delivering essential humanitarian aid, creating livelihood opportunities, and empowering local communities through sustainable development projects. Key initiatives include health, livelihood, WASH, protection programs, and psychosocial assistance for vulnerable groups, particularly in areas severely impacted by conflict and socio-economic instability. Recently, Dorcas has expanded its efforts to include climate change adaptation programs in Ninawa and Duhok.

 

Job Title: Data Collector

 

Job Location: Duhok,

 

Department: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)

 

Job Summary:

 

The Data Collector is responsible for collecting accurate and reliable data from the field as part of Dorcas's projects, ensuring that data is gathered, recorded, and reported in accordance with the organization’s standards. This role involves interacting with project beneficiaries and stakeholders, conducting surveys and interviews, and supporting the MEAL team with data collection activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Data Collection:
    • Conduct surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and other data-gathering methods as directed by the project team.
    • Collect quantitative and qualitative data from project participants, beneficiaries, and stakeholders.
    • Ensure that all data collected is accurate, complete, and aligned with the project’s objectives.

 

  1. Data Management:
    • Record and document collected data accurately in the required formats (e.g., paper forms, mobile data collection tools).
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to data protection protocols.
    • Report any discrepancies or issues encountered during data collection to the MEAL or project manager.

 

  1. Community Engagement:
    • Engage with beneficiaries and stakeholders to explain the purpose of data collection and the importance of their participation.
    • Foster trust with community members to ensure their willingness to participate in surveys and interviews.

 

  1. Reporting:
    • Submit completed data collection forms and tools within established deadlines.
    • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data when necessary, under the guidance of the MEAL team.

 

  1. Adherence to Standards:
    • Follow all Dorcas policies and procedures related to data collection, ethical standards, and child protection.
    • Participate in training and orientation sessions as needed to ensure quality data collection practices.

 

  1. Logistics and Coordination:
    • Assist with logistical arrangements for data collection activities, including coordinating transportation, scheduling interviews, and managing participant lists.
    • Maintain communication with field supervisors and project teams to ensure smooth operation.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications:

  • Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. A degree in social sciences, statistics, or related fields is a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience in data collection or fieldwork in humanitarian or development settings is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record data.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
    • Proficiency in using mobile data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Toolbox,) or Microsoft Excel.
    • Basic understanding of ethical data collection and confidentiality standards.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Kurdish (Badini), and Arabic language, English being an advantage.

 

Physical Demands:

  • In certain cases, the position may require extended hours and travel to remote areas and settlements including walking long distances or working in challenging environmental conditions.
