Job Summary

The WASH Trainer is responsible for the hygiene sector of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in regards to trainings, assessments, and follow-up home visits. Their primary objective is to improve the overall hygiene of beneficiaries targeted by the Living Water Program. The WASH Trainer assists in identifying hygiene gaps, enabling beneficiaries through capital projects (infrastructure upgrades, hygiene kit distributions, etc.) and educating beneficiaries to improve hygiene practices, with the long-term goal of improving behavior change leading to overall reduced morbidity and mortality related to preventable diseases. The team member will also assist in assessing all WASH needs of beneficiaries both to identify hygiene gaps and support the water and sanitation sectors with relevant beneficiary data. Performing all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of Samaritan's Purse with a generous and serving spirit, always maintaining the values of Samaritan Purse's to beneficiaries and coworkers.

 

Job Duties:

  • Ensure the timely and satisfactory completion of the project's activities, specifically overseeing the WASH training and education sessions for beneficiaries
  • Identify gaps in WASH and assist in the design of relevant hygiene interventions, including hygiene kit distributions, infrastructure upgrades, and targeted hygiene promotion programs
  • Coordinate and implement any surveys or data collection methods as directed by the WASH Program Manager
  • Coordinate and consult with local authorities to ensure buy-in and agreement of the activities
  • Work closely with other Living Water team members as well as with the WASH Program Manager and Program Coordinator, to ensure close collaboration between teammates and that the program's goals are reached.
  • Regularly implement hygiene promotion trainings and education sessions
  • Regularly report on program activities and data to the WASH Program Manager
  • Effectively coordinate with multiple departments: security, logistics, human resources, finance, warehouse, and other programs to further relevant program activities
  • Complete other activities and reports as assigned

Education / Experience Needed

  • Previous work experience in hygiene promotion, behavior change, or teaching is preferred.
  • Experience working with a NGO in the past is preferred.
  • Experience in WASH or public health is an asset.

 

 

LANGUAGE

Shingali Kurdish and English required (spoken and written), Arabic a plus.
