Oxfam in Iraq

Oxfam’s programme has been established in 2014 in response to the ISIS conflict in Iraq. Oxfam implemented activities during the past few years was built around the delivery of 3 main areas: A) Lifesaving humanitarian assistance b) Recovery assistance, and C) Promotion of Women Rights.

In order to serve these three objectives, Oxfam work aimed to integrate the following key sectors together for every intervention in a given location:

  • Water Sanitation and Hygiene
  • Emergency Food Security and Vulnerable Livelihoods
  • Non-food-Items and Shelter
  • Protection of lives and rights of civilians
  • Gender Justice
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning

OUR TEAM

The Innovation Lab Designer will work at the Iraq Response Innovation Lab (IRIL), which is part of the Program department of Oxfam and lead on the implementation of the Innovative projects that are being piloted in the lab. The position report to the Iraq Response Innovation Lab Manager. The Designer will work in close collaboration with the Digital Engagement Officer and the Masarouna Project Manager. The IRIL is part of a Global Response Innovation Lab (RIL) which consist of an umbrella of Innovation labs in 4 other countries. All country labs are supported by the Central Support Unit of the Global RIL.

JoB Purpose

The objective of the IRIL is to support the testing, development, and scale-up of innovations that will address locally identified challenges to improve and transform how response, early recovery, and resilience-building are carried out in Iraq. The IRIL is focusing on digital transformation and integrating digital solutions into the lab activities.  These solutions will include the SRHR digital platform, IRIL social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and others), the IRIL section in the Response Innovation Lab website, and other digital solutions.

 

In addition to the above description, IRIL is aiming to improve the local capacity of the lab in terms of creating and managing digital spaces and enhancing this culture within the organization.  

This role will be focused on the establishment and follow up of the Masarouna SRHR Digital Platform. Supporting in designing content to be used on the platform in a user centred approach.

 

In a context where securing Reproductive Health and Rights is challenging, the Masarouna “Our Pathway” program will mobilize the power of young people (YP) for collective action to support their access for greater freedom of choice and respect for their Reproductive Health and Rights. The Digital platform aims raise awareness around reproductive health and harmful practices, to promote a society where young people can develop healthily and safely.

 

The Graphic Design Officer, will be working closely with a creative team comprised of Social Media Editor, Web Editor and Digital Engagement Officer. The designer will be translating visions into designs and contributing to the content and marketing strategy of the platform.

key Responsibilities

  • Designs, conceptualize, and creates customer-centric projects across the entire product lifecycle, keeping up with the launches of new IRIL platforms and projects;
  • Translates wishes and objectives of the online channels into a visual structure, taking technical specifications into account;
  • Work collaboratively with multiple team members to create designs to match with the content prepared.
  • Researches and designs new features and continuously improves the user experience of existing online channels;
  • Produces innovative concepts and prototypes;
  • Runs design workshops with multiple stakeholders;
  • Researches and stays up-to-date with interaction design trends in target countries;
  • Monitors ongoing improvements in user-centred design and their effects on programmes.
  • Trains colleagues to do UX research on their own channels and optimise the products
  • Develops UX tooling for country teams to optimise their platforms;
  • Designs infographics for data processes and findings.
  • Supports the regions with expertise and advice, in close collaboration with key stakeholders;
  • Support with planning and coordination to ensure timely and quality implementation of digital transformation activities with support from the Lab management.
  • Capturing and applying good practices (internal and external) for the further development of the user experience and performance of the digital channels
  • Support in adapting and identifying trends, opportunities, and social media campaigns, and using this information to support partners in the optimization of online channels and platforms
  • Evaluate emerging digital platforms and technologies and make recommendations on their adoption.
  • Assist the IRIL team in developing and managing the SRHR digital platform

M&E, Communication and Reporting

  • Work in close collaboration with the communication focal point and communication team to document project progress and learning.
  • Document compelling stories and case studies
  • Periodic and timely reporting to the IRIL management on progress/ performance
  • Provide any other technical support to the IRIL team.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Our next Graphic Design Officer will require:

  • 3 to 5 years of user-centred design experience for digital platforms, apps, web and mobile devices design;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields
  • Knowledge of UX and UI design patterns, standard user-centred design methodologies and user centred data research;
  • Knowledge of and experienced in Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and associated design tools
  • Knowledge in SRHR and humanitarian work
  • High organizational skills and ability to priorities workload and meet deadlines
  • Strong interest in Innovations and digital solutions
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated experience in working with teams and team work.
  • Fluent in Arabic, Kurdish, and English is a must
  • Knowledge and experience in youth centred design concepts.

Desirable

  • Experienced in working with international teams
  • Experience managing websites and designing for websites.
  • Good understanding of innovation and the issues and challenges around it.
