Geneva Call is recruiting a Programme Assistant - Baghdad

 

In situations of armed conflict, Geneva Call, as a neutral, impartial and independent international humanitarian organization, endeavors to strengthen the respect of humanitarian norms and principles by armed actors, in order to improve the protection of civilians, while supporting local communities in their efforts to enhance their own protection. Key Responsibilities

                                                     

The Programme Assistant will be based in Baghdad and responsblie for:

 

  • Providing support in the implementation of Geneva Call’s programme on engaging armed actors and other stakeholders on protection of civilians within the framework of International Humanitarian Law in Iraq.

 

The Programme Assistant reports to the Head of Office in Baghdad.

 

Main Tasks:

 

Programme Assistant :

 

  • Prepare regular monthly reports analyzing political and humanitarian situation.
  • Ensure effective flow of information and communication with partner CSOs.
  • Prepare regular monitoring reports and assist Programme Coordinator in conducting internal programme evaluations and audits.
  • Prepare programme related external communication materials in coordination with the Communication and Development Officer;
  • Ensure archiving of soft and hard copies of project douments.
  • Prepare and submit project expenditure reports to the finance department.
  • Monthly updating the Kobo toolbox application and materials.
  • Support program coordinator in developing programme work plan and budget in consultation with training and policy officers and partners and ensure timely reporting;
  • Support Baghdad team in engage local and international organizations and consolidate friends of IHL Network;
  • Support Head of Office in liaisoning with partner organizations and stakeholders to ensure close cooperation coordination in the field;
  • Provide support to field staff in the implementation of community based protection projects;
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

  • Bachelor degree (minimum) in international relations, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights Law, Political Science, Social Sciences.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years relevant work experience in a humanitarian/human rights organization working in conflict areas.

 

Technical skills:

  • Strong writing, presentation, interpersonal skills.
  • knowledge of issues of humanitarian affairs and capacity for political analysis.
  • Strong presentational, writing and editing skills in Arabic and English.
  • flexibility and adaptability to change.

 

Languages:

  • Excellent written and oral skills in Arabic and English

 

Personal Qualities:

  • High level of integrity and accountability;

  • Flexibility;
