Brief description of the organization

Yazda Iraq is a local organization registered in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It operates as a subsidiary of the global Yazda organization and adheres to the same mission: supporting vulnerable communities, particularly those affected by genocide and mass atrocities. In Iraq/KRI, Yazda implements programs focused on advocacy, legal assistance, humanitarian aid, and community and survivor empowerment initiatives. The Country Director leads these efforts, ensuring they align with organizational goals and respond effectively to local needs.

 

Background

The position is part of the Health Program, under the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) project, which aims to improve access to integrated primary healthcare and mental health services for vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities. The project delivers community-based medical and mental health care through mobile teams, in close coordination with the Ministry of Health and local health actors, and in line with national health strategies and international standards.

Job Purpose

The Medical Project Manager leads and oversees the planning and implementation of medical and mental health activities under the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) project, ensuring the delivery of quality primary healthcare and mental health services in line with WHO standards, Ministry of Health protocols, and donor requirements. The role provides technical leadership to medical and MH teams, ensures effective clinical operations and reporting, and coordinates with health authorities and partners to improve access to integrated healthcare services for vulnerable communities.

 

Main Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning and Coordination

  • Participate in defining medical operational priorities as required.
  • Contribute to the development of project strategies, annual work plans, budget reviews, and donor reports.
  • Identify potential challenges in program implementation and reorganize medical and mental health (MH) activities in coordination with donor advisors and senior management.
  • Ensure regular coordination and communication with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other relevant local medical actors.

2. Medical Project Implementation and Oversight

  • Oversee all medical and public health activities of the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), ensuring quality and compliance with WHO standards and MoH protocols, including:
    • Community awareness and patient education activities (health promotion sessions on hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, prevention, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and mental health (MH).
    • Screening of patients for NCD and MH conditions.
    • Provision of medical care to patients in line with approved clinical guidelines.
    • Referral of patients requiring secondary or tertiary care to appropriate health facilities.
    • Follow-up of chronic patients to ensure continuity of care.

3. Medical Records, Data Management, and Reporting

  • Ensure the setup, proper use, and regular update of patient documentation (cards, files, and records) using standard templates.
  • Guarantee medical confidentiality, ethical standards, and data protection at all times.
  • Establish and maintain standard data collection and reporting tools.
  • Monitor performance indicators and ensure timely and accurate monthly and quarterly reporting.

4. Team Management and Capacity Building

  • Coordinate, supervise, coach, support, and evaluate the performance of medical team members.
  • Ensure compliance with medical protocols, clinical standards, donor and MoH requirements.
  • Plan and supervise, in close coordination with the Country Director, all human resource processes for medical staff, including recruitment, training, induction, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Support effective internal and external communication related to medical activities.

5. Pharmacy and Medical Supply Management

  • Supervise the pharmacist to ensure effective and efficient management of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and consumables.
  • Coordinate with the logistics department to monitor stock levels, consumption, and procurement planning.
  • Ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines and medical supplies and prevent stock shortages.
  • Ensure proper drug storage, dispensation, and patient education in line with standard protocols.

6. Other Responsibilities

Undertake additional tasks as required, in line with organizational needs and operational contexts.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • Strong knowledge of primary healthcare, NCDs, and mental health/MHPSS
  • Proven experience leading and supervising multidisciplinary medical and MH teams.
  • Good understanding of WHO guidelines, MoH protocols, and humanitarian health standards.
  • Experience in project planning, monitoring, reporting, and donor compliance.
  • Ability to manage medical data, documentation, and confidentiality.
  • Experience in pharmacy and medical supply coordination is an asset.
  • Strong coordination, communication, and team leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in English, Arabic, and/or Kurdish is an advantage.
