
Brief description of the organization
Yazda Iraq is a local organization registered in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It operates as a subsidiary of the global Yazda organization and adheres to the same mission: supporting vulnerable communities, particularly those affected by genocide and mass atrocities. In Iraq/KRI, Yazda implements programs focused on advocacy, legal assistance, humanitarian aid, and community and survivor empowerment initiatives. The Country Director leads these efforts, ensuring they align with organizational goals and respond effectively to local needs.
Background
The Media and Communication Assistant will be part of the Communications Department, which is responsible for enhancing the organization’s visibility, promoting its programs, and ensuring effective internal and external communication. The Department works closely with all projects and programs to document activities, produce high-quality content, and manage media and public relations. This role will support both departmental and project-level communication initiatives, including digital campaigns, reports, media coverage of field activities, and creative design outputs.
Job Purpose
The Media and Communication Assistant will support the Communications Department in implementing communication and media activities, with a particular focus on design, content creation, and fieldwork support. The role involves photography, videography, graphic design, and assisting in the development of communication materials for campaigns, reports, and digital platforms. The Assistant will work closely with the Communications Senior Officer to ensure strong, creative, and consistent visibility of the organization’s work.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and production of communication materials (reports, infographics, brochures, presentations, social media visuals, and other publications).
- Edit and produce photos and videos for campaigns, reports, and digital platforms.
- Support media coverage of organizational activities, events, and field missions (photography, videography, live coverage).
- Draft, edit, and proofread communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, social media content, and website updates.
- Contribute to planning and executing awareness campaigns and events.
- Manage and maintain the organization’s photo, video, and media archive.
- Support social media management: scheduling, posting, monitoring, and reporting.
- Assist in media relations, including liaising with journalists, media outlets, and external vendors.
- Ensure that all materials comply with the organization’s branding and visibility guidelines.
- Provide logistical and technical support for communication-related events, training, and campaigns.
- Any other tasks related to the position that may be requested by the supervisor.
- Prior experience in communication, media relations or public relations, or preferably within the non-profit sector
- Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant experience in communications, media production, or graphic design (preferably in an NGO, development, or humanitarian context).
- Demonstrated experience in graphic design, including layout and design for reports, infographics, social media content, and other communication materials.
- Strong English writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for different audiences and media formats.
- Fluency in Arabic and Kurmaji is required.
- Passion for social justice, environmental sustainability, or other relevant issues championed by Yazda.
- Proficiency in digital communication platforms and social media management.
