Context/Reporting line:

Under the general guidance of the Chief of Mission, the overall supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, and the direct supervision of the National Communications officer, the Sr. Project Associate Translator and Copyeditor (English – Kurdish) will be responsible for the following key duties:

Core Functions / Responsibilities          

1. Provide Kurdish-to-English and English-to-Kurdish translation services to the Media and Communications Unit and program team, ensuring high-quality standards of translation.
2. Review Kurdish and English documents and provide line-editing and revision.
3. As needed, review translated documents and provide written feedback.
4. As needed, transcribe, and Translate audio files.
5. Carry out other tasks relevant to translation as needed.
6. Convert dialogue and convey the intent of the original speaker, understanding that many idioms and slang terms do not translate exactly between languages.
7. Submit translations to appropriate management for review as needed.
8. Provide parties with clear and exact translations of written materials, and interpretations of verbal communication.
9. Provide interpretations of questions, answers, statements, arguments, explanations, and other forms of verbal communication.
10. Impart thought, purpose, spirit, emotions and tone of speakers from source language into target language.
11. Perform other duties as may be assigned

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in linguistic or translation field from an accredited academic university with four years of experience.
• Completed high school degree with 6 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience and Skills:

• Background in Social Sciences, peace and governance, international development, journalism, translations, or relevant professional experience in research and writing.
• Strong background working with international organizations, CSOs or NGOs.

Languages:

• Fluency in English and Kurdish is required.
• Arabic language is an advantage.
