Brief description of the organization
Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (“ISIL”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria.
Project Background

Job Purpose
The Communication, Outreach, and Reporting Officer (Part-time) is responsible for supporting the MMU project by developing and implementing effective communication strategies, driving community outreach initiatives, and managing project reporting. This role will focus on raising awareness, promoting health services, and advocating for key health issues, particularly through digital platforms. The officer will also assist in creating IEC materials, organizing international health days, and ensuring that all communication aligns with MMU’s goals. Additionally, the officer will collaborate closely with the Media and Communications Coordinator to ensure consistent messaging and increase the project's visibility.
Main Responsibilities
Job Overview
The Communication, Outreach, and Reporting Officer will be responsible for managing the project’s communications, driving community outreach initiatives, and ensuring that reporting is comprehensive and aligned with Yazda’s MMU project objectives. This role is integral in fostering community engagement, promoting the services provided by the MMU, and ensuring effective communication and support in the reporting of project activities. The officer will focus heavily on digital advocacy and the design of IEC materials, as well as coordinating key international health-related observance days.
Key Responsibilities
1. Communications
- With the support of the project’s team and under the supervision of the communications manager, develop communication and outreach materials to increase awareness of MMU services and promote public health initiatives in targeted communities.
- Ensure positive visibility of MMU activities, project updates and services.
- Accompany the team to the field at least once a month to take pictures, videos, and develop content on the MMU project and the services.
- Closely coordinate and follow-up with the Media and Communications Manager to ensure alignment in messaging, media outreach, and the overall communications strategy.
- Lead on the development of communication materials related to Sinjar based on Yazda’s needs.
- Support the Media and Communications manager to develop content based on Yazda’s needs.
2. Community Outreach

- Lead community online outreach activities, awareness campaigns, and informational posters to raise awareness about NCD, mental health, and the MMU services.
- Support in strengthening the relationship between MMU staff and the community, facilitating trust and collaboration with the local population by collecting feedback and success stories.
- Support the team in organizing and managing community engagement events such as World Diabetes Day, Mental Health Awareness, and other health promotion activities.
3. Reporting
- Assist the MMU Project Manager in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual donors’ reports, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with the project objectives.
- Maintain detailed records of events and outreach activities.
- Track and report on communication and outreach efforts, measuring the effectiveness and reach of awareness campaigns.
- Based on the needs, collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) team to gather relevant data for project reports and ensure alignment with project targets and indicators.
Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Health, or a related field.
- Certification:
any other Media relevant certifications. - Experience:
At least 2 years of technical experience, with a preference for experience in rural or post-conflict settings.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic required, knowledge of Kurmanji preferred.
Skills
- At least 2 years of experience in communications, outreach, or reporting, preferably in the healthcare or development sector.
- Strong design skills notably in developing social media materials.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, Arabic, and Kurmanji (preferred).
- Knowledge of social media platforms and experience managing online content.
- Experience in writing reports, press releases, and other forms of communication.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with health-related communication, especially in rural or post-conflict settings, is plus.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
