Description

Job Purpose: 

The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of all child protection activities at Human Appeal’s Child Protection Community Centre located in A’ana, providing assistance to CP Facilitators in the designing and implementation of CP activities under the supervision of Team Leader. He/She will ensure a timely delivery of the Child Protection activities in accordance with HA Protection Guidelines and Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) in pursuit of quality and excellence.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

1- Ensure timely and technically sound implementation of all Child Protection Activities including Case Management (Best Interest Assessment) and vocational and life skill trainings to the targeted beneficiaries under the supervision and technical guidance of Team Leader. 

2- In conjunction with the Team Leader, develop child protection activities appropriate for the beneficiaries at the centre. 

3- Ensuring CP and Case Management activities are implemented as planned and in compliance with child protection principles, humanitarian principles and standards

4- Identify and refer the vulnerable children and adolescent girls to necessary services both in and outside of the centre in consultation with the Team Leader.

5- Review Best Interest Assessment reports developed by the Case Workers 

6- Maintain accurate records regarding CP activities and provide weekly updates to the Team Leader

7- Assist Child Protection Facilitators in developing and implementing recreational activities for children 

8- Ensure all referrals are tracked are recorded as necessary

9- Ensure all activities are documented as required and that the data for every activity is accurately collected and appropriately stored.

10- Assist Life Skill Facilitators in designing and implementing vocational educational and recreational activities for the adolescents. 

11- Ensure that project activities develop and are implemented in line with HAs mandate, policies, procedures and country strategy, including donors’ requirements, national and international rules and guidelines.

12- Accountability: Ensure members of the Child Protection Team abide by the Code of Conduct, confidentiality, humanitarian principles, and international/organizational codes of practice.

13- Prepare regular and timely updates and reports as requested

14- Ensure all protection concerns identified are communicated in timely manner to the concerned child protection project team and management. 

15- Providing good quality of intervention and technical support in child protection to the field staff team.

16- Providing support for case management monitoring and the follow up to documentation process, providing technical support to case workers in case management. 

17- Any other reasonable duties, as assigned by the Team Leader (Line Manager).

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Specifications and Skills: 

1- Relevant University degree or a higher qualification in Women’s Studies, Humanitarian Assistance, Development, International Human Rights, Law, Social Work or Political Science minimum 2 years of experience in a specific Child Protection role. 

2- Strong understanding of Protection Standards, SGBV, Key sectorial issues and processes including advocacy for protection. 

3- Strong conceptual and practical understanding of Child Protection issues and approaches in humanitarian contexts, including the constraints/risks and cultural sensitivities of work in Iraq.

4- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure, manage time and prioritise work to deadlines. 

5- A thorough understanding of the gender-specific dynamics and protection issues of the Iraq conflict and IDP displacements. 

6- Well-developed organisational skills.

7- Punctuality and respect for rules and procedures.

8- Strong (but accommodating) leadership skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-disciplinary environment. 

9- Able to work independently, with minimal supervision and under pressure.

10- Fluency in Arabic
