For over 35 years, the humanitarian aid organization SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL has been committed to providing aid in the event of conflict and natural disasters. Our mission is to provide aid as quickly and as efficiently as possible to endangered populations by meeting their vital needs: drinking water, food and shelter.
Solidarités International (SI) has an operational presence in Iraq since 2017 to respond to post-conflict emergency needs of populations in Ninewa governorate, widely affected by the war against the Islamic State (IS). Focusing on informal settlements, SI has provided WASH and shelter aid to those affected by protracted displacement and camp closures. SI led several WaSH consortia in and out-of-camp, providing water, rehabilitating infrastructure, and enhancing water management. Since 2021, SI conducted integrated WaSH and Livelihoods interventions, infrastructure rehabilitation, focusing on restoring vulnerable communities’ livelihood opportunities. As of 2023, SI projects' focus shifted to strengthening the capacities of local stakeholders to address water scarcity issues through improved Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) practices, developing water-related pilot innovative projects to support alternative solutions for communities to enhance their resilience against the effects of climate change, as well as support preparedness and DRR towards natural and man-made disasters.
