Position Overview: 

KOHRW is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining precise financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the organization’s financial health through accurate reporting and analysis. This role is critical to KOHRW’s mission, requiring a proactive professional with strong analytical skills and a commitment to transparency.

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Financial Record Keeping & Bookkeeping

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using the Salhisoft accounting system. 

- Record all financial transactions, including receipts, disbursements, and payroll. 

- Reconcile bank ledgers, petty cash, and accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy. 

- Manage petty cash and ensure timely processing of deposits and withdrawals. 

  1. Financial Reporting & Analysis

- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with organizational and donor requirements. 

- Generate customized financial reports for management, donors, and stakeholders. 

- Conduct variance analysis to compare budgeted vs. actual expenditures and provide actionable insights.

- Monthly bank reconciliation, monthly cash reconciliation and weekly Cash Count.

  1. Accounts Payable & Receivable

- Process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and other payments in a timely manner. 

- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding payments, and ensure proper documentation. 

- Maintain an organized filing system for all financial transactions and supporting documents. 

  1. Budgeting & Forecasting

- Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual organizational budget. 

- Track expenditures against budgets and report discrepancies to management. 

- Contribute to financial forecasting and long-term planning initiatives. 

 

  1. Compliance & Audit Support

- Ensure adherence to local accounting regulations, donor guidelines, and organizational policies. 

- Facilitate internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations. 

- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard organizational assets. 

 

  1. Administrative & Cross-functional Support

- Collaborate with program teams to ensure alignment between financial and operational goals. 

- Assist in procurement processes and vendor management as needed.

- Assist in preparing employee salaries.

- Support capacity-building initiatives for staff on financial policies and procedures.  

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications & Competencies: 

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is a plus. 

- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the NGO sector. 

- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sahlisoft) and advanced Excel skills. 

- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements. 

- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines. 

- High level of integrity and commitment to ethical financial practices.
