Description

Aid Gate Organization and Omoana are seeking a part-time Theatre Technical Advisor to support the implementation and development of innovative theatre-based activities under the Art for Peace project in Mosul, Iraq.

Art for Peace aims to provide psychosocial support, violence prevention, and youth empowerment through artistic practices. The project works with young people in challenging contexts, including camps and detention settings, using theatre as a tool for expression, dialogue, and resilience-building.

The Theatre Technical Advisor will support the project by:

  • contributing to the design and innovation of theatre methodologies, including Forum Theatre and Improvisation Theatre,
  • training trainers and facilitators, and
  • delivering direct theatre activities with youth.

The position requires both technical expertise and strong field engagement, working closely with local teams and communities.

  • Preferred base: Mosul, Iraq
  • Regular field work in youth centres, camps and detention centres is required.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Technical & Methodological Support

  • Develop and adapt theatre-based methodologies (Forum Theatre, Improvisation Theatre) to the local context.
  • Support innovation in arts-based psychosocial and peacebuilding activities.
  • Contribute to session design, curricula, and training materials.

Capacity Building

  • Train and mentor local facilitators and trainers.
  • Strengthen facilitation skills, ethical practices, and safeguarding approaches.

Direct Implementation

  • Facilitate theatre workshops directly with youth.
  • Support activities in sensitive and restrictive environments (e.g. camps, detention centres).

Coordination & Reporting

  • Work closely with EdGate and Omoana project teams.
  • Provide technical input, feedback, and brief reports on activities conducted.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Essential Requirements (non-negotiable)

  • Full professional fluency in English and Arabic (spoken and written).
  • Strong experience in theatre facilitation, particularly Forum Theatre and/or Improvisation Theatre.
  • Proven ability to work in challenging and sensitive environments.
  • Availability for part-time engagement.

 

Additional Assets

  • Proffessional certification in theatre
  • Experience in psychosocial support, youth empowerment, or peacebuilding.
  • Previous work in humanitarian, post-conflict, or displacement contexts.
  • Experience working with youth in detention or closed settings.

  • Strong intercultural sensitivity and ethical awareness.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and emotional resilience.
  • Ability to balance technical advisory work with hands-on facilitation.
  • Commitment to non-violence, dignity, and youth empowerment.
