Purpose of the Role
- The Protection Officer supports the day-to-day implementation of NRC’s Protection Project, ensuring high-quality case management, community-based protection activities, and protection monitoring. They provide direct services to vulnerable individuals, engage with communities to strengthen self-protection, and contribute to improving protection practices. The role upholds NRC standards and promotes access to essential services through collaboration and advocacy.

What you will do:
- Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines as well Government rules and regulations
- Implement delegated S&S project portfolio activities according to plan of action specifically regarding technical aspects
- Prepare and develop technical documents and status reports as per project monitoring requirements
- Ensure proper filing of technical documents in both hard and soft copies
- Ensure that projects target beneficiary sites/units most in need, and explore and assess new and better ways to assist
- Promote and share ideas for technical improvement in relation to both the “hard” and “soft” components of S&S programming
Specifically, you will:
- Deliver case management services including assessment, planning, referrals, and follow-up
- Conduct protection assessments and support Civilian Self-Protection (CSP) initiatives
- Provide training and guidance to communities on safety measures
- Monitor and report protection trends through FGDs, KIIs, and other tools
- Maintain accurate case data and contribute to reporting and evaluations
- Coordinate with team leads, community stakeholders, and service providers
- Propose improvements to protection strategies and practices
Professional competencies
Generic professional competencies:
- Experience in a similar role within humanitarian or recovery contexts
- Proven ability to work effectively in complex and high-risk environments
- Track record of delivering results aligned with the role's responsibilities
- Fluency in Arabic (required); proficiency in English (preferred)
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in protection, case management, or related social work
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or psychosocial counselling
- Strong foundation in counseling and psychosocial support; prior training is an asset
- First-hand experience in protection work within Nineveh or similar contexts
- Sound knowledge of data protection standards and information management
- Comfortable with software such as MS Word, Excel, Kobo, and Outlook
- Demonstrates confidentiality, respect, and non-discrimination in client interactions
- Sensitive communicator, especially around difficult or personal topics
- Highly organized, with the ability to meet deadlines, multitask, work independently, and stay composed under pressure

Contract Duration: until 31 December 2025 (renewable based on performance, funds, and need for the position).
Duty Station: Mosul - Nineveh - Iraq with 10% travel (to different field locations in Iraq).

Salary: G5, According to NRC’s Iraq salary scale and terms and conditions.
