
1. Background
KOHRW is in the process of developing a project aimed at equipping students and lecturers at the University of Kirkuk with both technical knowledge and practical skills in solar system installation and maintenance. The proposed intervention is being prepared for potential implementation and includes a combination of classroom-based theoretical instruction and a hands-on pilot installation of a solar energy system at the university premises. This initiative is designed to support Iraq’s national priorities on renewable energy transition, address the shortage of skilled professionals in the solar sector, and promote youth employment through green skills development.
The project will commence only if KOHRW is selected by the donor for implementation.
2. Purpose of the Assignment
The selected Professional Trainers will lead the delivery of technical training sessions and supervise On-the-Job Training (OJT) activities for students. Trainers are expected to guide trainees in both classroom and field settings, ensuring quality learning and compliance with safety standards.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Training Delivery (15 days):
· Facilitate interactive technical sessions on solar PV system components, installation techniques, maintenance, and safety.
· Collaborate with university lecturers who have received ToT to co-deliver sessions.
· Provide students with insight into the Iraqi solar market, installation standards, troubleshooting, and practical applications.
· Support pre- and post-training assessments.
B. OJT Supervision (1 month):
· Supervise students during the installation of a solar system at a selected university building.
· Ensure the proper application of installation techniques, safety protocols, and teamwork.
· Work closely with an HSE expert to identify and manage worksite risks.
· Document student performance, attendance, and learning progress.
· Ensure training tools and protective equipment are used properly.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in solar energy installation and maintenance.
- Proven experience as a trainer or supervisor in technical programs.
- Familiarity with Iraq’s renewable energy landscape and labor regulations.
- Strong facilitation, mentoring, and communication skills.
- Fluency in Arabic or Kurdish.
- Prior experience working with university students is desirable.
- Deliverables
- Daily session plans and technical materials for training.
- Attendance and performance records for all trainees.
- Short weekly summary reports during both training and OJT phases.
- Final technical report outlining training outcomes, challenges, and recommendations.
- Duration and Work Schedule
- 15 days of technical training delivery.
- 30 days of on-site supervision during OJT.
- Additional 5 days for coordination, reporting, and preparatory work.
- Total expected input: 50 working days (spread over approx. 2.5 months).
