Description

Function prerequisite:

 

The Multitask Team - Team Leader (TL) is responsible for the administration and safety of a multi-task team throughout the working day, deploying and managing searchers to conduct the land release process, ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with SOPs and implementation plans. The TL will monitor searchers during operations, maintain standards and report on progress made on the worksite.

 

Responsibilities:

General:

  • Adhere to all NPA policies, regulations and procedures.

  • Daily and weekly planning regarding team deployment.

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of SOPs and associated documents.

  • Ensure SOP’s are implemented and adhered to.

  • Oversee that all tools and equipment are prepared and in a serviceable condition.

  • Brief searchers on daily work plans.

  • Ensure that site markings are accurately placed, clearly visible, and maintained.

  • Ensure all staff under your supervision are wearing the correct NPA uniform.

  • Ensure that PPE is worn correctly by all team members.

  • Follow the instructions of the Site Supervisor/Technical Field Manager/Senior Technical Field Manager

  • Stop all work if critical issues are discovered and report through chain of command.

Specific:

  • Understand that SOPs are designed to meet the requirements within NMAS and IMAS.

  • Understand the principles of land release.

  • Understand the responsibilities of a TL before, during and after deployment into a minefield.

  • Know device categories, sub-categories model designations and likely disposition in operational area.

  • Be able to fully demonstrate and correctly identify EO in theatre, both by sub-category; and identify by other means of classification such as function, size and associated hazards.

  • Understand the documentation required within a task dossier that a team leader is responsible for maintaining.

  • Demonstrate planning and deploying deminers in their team while adhering to site requirements.

  • Recognise direct and indirect evidence. (ground sign, mine parts, accident sites, etc.).

  • Understand the importance of concurrent activity to efficiency in team-based drills.

  • Understand field communications procedures and use of communications equipment.

  • Understand the importance of functional and accurate communications to safety and efficiency.

  • Be able to conduct checks to be made to PPE of team members.

  • Be able to conduct checks to be made to tools and equipment of team members.

  • Be able to correctly calculate areas cleared/reduced/cancelled.

  • Understanding geospatial data (bearings, distance, latitude and longitude).

  • Be able to use a compass for taking bearings.

 

  • Be able to measure and record bearings and distances in a minefield.

  • Provide accurate records for increased quality and safety.

  • Be able to inspect, set up and turn on the GPS.

  • Be able to take a GPS coordinate.

  • Understanding data and grid references used in the NMAS, and the results if the incorrect data or grid system is used.

  • Understand the daily reporting requirements of the organisation for a team leader.

  • Be able to compile daily reports for which the team leader is responsible.

  • Basic introduction to IMSMA and its reporting formats.

  • Be able to use electronic reporting systems (Survey 123, etc.).

  • Understand the organization and human resource management procedures.

  • Understand the safeguarding procedures of the organisation and how to support and manage team members.

  • Understanding organisational logistical procedures.

  • Understand equipment management and maintenance procedures and schedules.

  • Maintain functional equipment to minimise downtime and ensure quality.

  • Introduction to the principles of leadership.

  • Be able to command and control deminers and assets in a demining worksite.

  • Be able to command and control a team in response to demining accidents/incidents.

  • Understand the team leader’s requirement to provide information when subject to an accident/incident investigation.

  • Understanding how leadership and quality management interact with safety.

  • Understand the application of QC and meet minimum internal requirements.

  • Be able to plan and conduct of internal QC at the team level.

  • Understand the requirements to facilitate external monitoring inspection (QA).

  • Understand the requirements to facilitate post clearance inspection (QC).

  • Be able to take corrective action in response to nonconformities during demining.

Authority/ Decisions:

  • Deploy, command and control searchers and assets within a demining worksite.

  • Administration and reporting for all team members.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Required qualifications:

Education:

Must have:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (Arabic).

  • Demining/Search Course

  • Team Leader Course

  • Iraq / IMAS EOD 3 Course

Desirable:

  • Any other mine action related course.

  • English language qualification

  • Driving licence (Government issued).

Experience:

Must have:

  • 24 months or more experience working as a searcher/TL

Desirable:

  • Driving both manual and automatic vehicles.
