Facilitator "Tackling the Worst Forms of Child Labur amongst IDPs, Returnees, and Vulnerable Host Communities in Nineveh Governorate"

Al-Tahreer Association for Development (TAD) is a non –governmental organization that aims at spreading the tenets of democracy, peace, and human rights with a focus on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE). TAD has been working in Iraq ever since 2003, starting its efforts in Nineveh and expanding to the remaining Iraqi governorates. The association has conducted many training programs, provided counseling, and implemented projects that support the building of democracy and civil society and promoting a culture of peace, and maintaining the relationship between individuals and diverse communities of Iraq.

Project Summary: During 2020, TAD implemented a project funded by ILO in order to tackle the worst forms of child labour amongst IDPs, refugees, and host communities in Iraq. Due to the magnitude of the phenomenon; the timeframe and the financial limitation of the project, it was decided to focus solely on the city of Mosul in order to ensure greater effect and impact. Thus, five CFLSs were established by TAD in the East and West bank of Mosul city: Al-Arpachiyya quarters, Al-Entisar quarters (in Mosul’s east bank), Al-Hermat-5 quarters, Tel El-Rumman quarters, and El-Yabisaat quarters (in Mosul’s west bank).

As part of TAD`s strategy in responding to the most urgent and pressing needs of these children and their families, TAD plans to extend the project implementation in close coordination with ILO in order to tackle child labour in the city of Mosul, reduce child labour cases and the drastic effects of its consequences.
