Description

General Description:

People in Need (PIN) is an international NGO providing immediate humanitarian aid and development assistance. PIN has been operating in Iraq since 2003.

PIN is seeking an on-request services of translation and language interpretation to/from English language and Kurdish Badini, Kurdish Sorani or Arabic, with experience with technical and contextual specifics of humanitarian work or development aid projects.

Under the supervision of the Country Representative and Project Teams, the service provider will be required to:

  • Perform a written translation of all the necessary documents with the highest quality of services by meeting all the deadlines;
  • In-person performance of interpretation services during the PIN organized meetings/workshops/events with the highest quality and professionalism;
  • Have adequate terminology knowledge and be able to translate with clarity to ensure the internal consistency of the documents.

 

The scope of services will include, but may not be limited to, translating from/to the above-mentioned languages in the following areas:

    • Civis society and good governance;
    • Peacebuilding, crisis/conflict prevention and recovery;
    • Community engagement and Locally led actions;
    • Partnership and capacity strengthening;
    • Climate Resilience and Adaptation;
    • Child Protection and Child Rights;
    • Education in Emergency and in Development;
    • Gender and social inclusion mainstreaming.

 

Main responsibilities & duties:

  • Work closely with PIN Iraq regarding the written translation of the materials and providing in-person language interpretation during PIN events;
  • Perform terminology research and use the correct terms and names consistently throughout the translated text;
  • Prepare the finalized translations as ready to be printed;
  • Deliver the translated documents as the required file (i.e. docx, xlsx, etc.);
  • Ensure the confidentiality of the materials in compliance with PIN Policies;
  • Ensure professional translation, proofreading, and editing of all texts before submitting it back to PIN;
  • Submit the translated documents before the deadline - timeframe for the translation depending on the size of the document, to be determined with the assigned project responsible person before the service is required;
  • Participate in the PIN events to deliver consecutive interpretation services (in person, with the possibility of field trips (even overnight) within KRI and GOI).

 

Methodology:

  • Receive briefing from the Project/Activity responsible person on the translation/interpretation topic and consult specific context relevant terminology;
  • Accompany PIN team(s) to the events where the services of interpretation are required;
  • Prepare a combined delivery report on services acquired in the given month(s).

 

Expected Outputs:

  • High-quality translated documents depicting the program requirements and methodology.
  • High-quality consecutive interpretation services during the PIN events for its participants depicting the activities and its deliverables.

 

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • Experience with written translation and language interpretation to and from one or more languages requested in the ToR (a minimum of 1 year experiences);
  • A demonstrated high capacity of understanding specific context of humanitarian and development programming;
  • Ability to respond to direction and adapt approaches based on the input from assigned responsible person;
  • Available to work on request;
  • A demonstrated time-management skill and prioritization of tasks;
  • Available to travel (in case of in-person interpretation);
  • Be based in KRI.
