Background:

Harikar NGO is a neutral, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization established on 30th May 2004 by a group of social activists. Harikar NGO as stated in its mission statement strives toward the fulfilment of human and women rights in Dohuk Governorate as stipulated in the new Iraqi constitution of 15th October 2005. Harikar is committed to- within its resources- contribute towards the achievement of the internationally agreed Millennium Development Goals. Harikar believes in human rights, the right of every person to reach his/her potential without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, social segment and ethnicity. Harikar strives to achieve social justice especially among the marginalized vulnerable groups and works towards eliminating all forms of discrimination against women by promoting their capacity to fully participate in community development. Job Overview:

According to Strategic and Operational Guidance for Humanitarian Response in Informal Sites, 1M IDPs are residing in out of camps and about 104,000 are identified to be living in 575 informal sites in Iraq. As part the response to the needs of IDPs, Harikar will rehabilitate and extend water networks, provide 300 storage tanks with the standard size 250L per family, rehabilitate dysfunctional sanitation facilities, provide 50 garbage containers with 660L for an average of 8 households per container, promote hygiene using PHAST approach and distribute hygiene kits to reach 16,245 people in Zakho and Sumel districts.

 

Scope of Work (Duties and Responsibilities):

 

Objective 1: Project support;

 

  • Promoting safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services.
  • Help plan and carry out needs’ assessments, baseline studies and periodic studies and feedback findings to stakeholders.
  • Help plan activities to reduce WASH-related risks.
  • Collect data from Community Volunteers and the field to identify WASH conditions in the camps and report them to the Team Leader or WASH Officer.
  • Daily conduction of Hygiene Promotion or other WASH activities according to the plan that include home visits, sessions, field visits, and events.
  • Conduct hygiene promotion using PHAST method.
  • Train and manage Community Volunteers.
  • Take account of gender, protection, HIV, environment and other important cross-cutting WASH and Protection concerns in programme design, implementation and reporting; carry out activities in a way that reflects the needs of specific groups and individuals e.g. the elderly, children, women, and people with disabilities.

 

Objective 2: Team Leader support;

 

  • Support the Team Leader in carrying out the mapping exercise to ensure covering all houses in the targeted locations.
  • Support the Team Leader in the follow-up of HR, financial and logistics aspects of the project in Sumel and Zakho.
  • Support the Team Leader and WASH Officer in designing, managing, and monitoring hygiene promotion and protection activities according to project indicators using results-based approaches and PHAST method as required.
  • Support the Team Leader and WASH Officer in data collection, accurate record keeping and management of information to measure project indictors progress (Hygiene promotion) using required project activities tracking systems and keeping the MEAL required documents.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Team Leader.

Objective 3: Operation department (Procurement, Finance, HR, and MEAL) support;

  • Conduct activities in accordance with donor SOPs and any other key documents.
  • Abide by the security policies and procedures and report any incidents or breaches to line manager and / or security manager.
  • Responsible of own security and actively contribute to a positive security culture.

 

Objective 4: Coordination;

  • Liaise with community leaders and other agencies working in the intervention areas in order to make sure the coordination within the WASH sector to well carry out hygiene promotion and protection activities among target groups.
  • Coordinate with the Public Health Center to receive weekly reports to identify the trending hygiene practices and respond to them accordingly.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Experience, Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • Educational Qualifications:
  • University Degree in relevant field (Diploma degree with a good experience in a same position).
  • Professional Experience:
  • At least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in Projects implemented by national/international NGOs/UN bodies/ Government.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office (for reporting).
  • Good communication skills including writing skills.
  • Strong team work skills.
  • Strong training & facilitation skills.
  • Skills:
  • Fluency in written and spoken Kurdish and Arabic, good in written and spoken English.
