Context/Reporting line

IOM Iraq's Media and Communications Unit (MCU) produces cross-cutting communications content in support of programme divisions, donors, and the Government of Iraq, in line with IOM's institutional messaging and global communications strategy. The unit collects and produces high-quality video, photo, and motion graphics content, including human interest stories, social media content, and donor and advocacy materials, in Kurdish, Arabic, and English.

Under the general guidance of the Chief of Mission, the overall supervision of the Media and Communications Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior Communications Associate (Multimedia AV), the Video Editor provides technical support in editing and preparing video and audio-visual materials for IOM Iraq's approved communication platforms, based on established briefs, templates, technical specifications, and editorial guidance.

Core Functions / Responsibilities

 

  1. Edit raw video and photo footage collected from the field into human interest stories, social media content, donor visibility materials, and other audio-visual products, in Kurdish, Arabic, and English as required.
  2. Apply IOM Iraq's video templates, brand guidelines, and visual identity consistently across all edited products, including intros, outros, lower thirds, and captions.
  3. Add subtitles, on-screen text, and translations to videos to ensure accessibility and multi-language reach.
  4. Colour grade, correct, and balance audio (voice, music, sound effects) to ensure broadcast-quality output.
  5. Optimize exported videos for different platforms and formats (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, website, broadcast), including correct aspect ratios, resolutions, and durations.
  6. Prepare short-form cuts, teasers, reels, and other versions from existing video content as requested and in accordance with approved content briefs.
  7. Provide technical support for the production of motion graphics, animated data visuals, and infographics for social media and reporting products, in coordination with the design team.
  8. Liaise with the reporting officers to receive raw materials, approved briefs, instructions, and feedback, and incorporate revisions in a timely manner.
  9. Organize, label, and archive raw and edited footage, maintaining a structured, searchable video and photo gallery.
  10. Maintain and back up project files, ensuring version control and timely delivery ahead of deadlines and publishing schedules.
  11. Support the production and editing of livestream recordings and event coverage as required.
  12. Handle sensitive footage and compliance with IOM's data protection and beneficiary consent standards.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Required Qualifications

 

Education:

  • University degree in Film Production, Media, Communications, Journalism, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience; or;
  • Completed high school degree from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience.

Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated professional experience in video editing, with a portfolio or show-reel required at application stage.
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects; and the overall Adobe suite; access to Envato and other tools for transcribing and editing.
  • Experience editing human interest stories, documentaries, or advocacy/donor visibility videos, ideally within a humanitarian, UN, development, or media organization.
  • Experience producing content optimized for social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube).
  • Experience with motion graphics and animated infographics.
  • Experience working across multiple languages (Arabic and/or Kurdish alongside English) is highly desirable.
  • Having a high-performance laptop and tools for editing.
  • Strong narrative and storytelling instinct, able to shape raw footage into a clear, compelling edit.
  • Proficiency in colour grading, audio mixing, and multi-track editing.
  • Solid understanding of platform-specific video specifications (aspect ratio, length, captions) across social media and web.
  • Strong file management and organizational skills; comfortable maintaining structured archives and meeting tight turnaround times.
  • Ability to take and incorporate editorial feedback from multiple stakeholders.
  • Basic photography or videography skills are an advantage, though the role is editing-focused.
  • Discretion and sensitivity when handling footage involving vulnerable populations and beneficiaries.

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and either Arabic or Kurdish is required.
  • Candidates fluent in Arabic Should have working knowledge of Kurdish, and candidates fluent in Kurdish must have working knowledge of Arabic

 

Tools:

  • High-performance laptops are an advantage.
