IOM Iraq's Media and Communications Unit (MCU) produces cross-cutting communications content in support of programme divisions, donors, and the Government of Iraq, in line with IOM's institutional messaging and global communications strategy. The unit collects and produces high-quality video, photo, and motion graphics content, including human interest stories, social media content, and donor and advocacy materials, in Kurdish, Arabic, and English.
Under the general guidance of the Chief of Mission, the overall supervision of the Media and Communications Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior Communications Associate (Multimedia AV), the Motion Graphics & Video Editor provides technical support in editing and preparing video, motion graphics, and other audio-visual materials for IOM Iraq's approved communication platforms, based on established briefs, templates, technical specifications, and editorial guidance.
Core Functions / Responsibilities
- Prepare and adapt motion graphics, animations, animated infographics, data visualizations, and other visual content for IOM Iraq’s communications, social media, advocacy, donor visibility, and reporting materials.
- Prepare and adapt animated assets including title sequences, lower thirds, transitions, maps, charts, diagrams, kinetic typography, and other graphic elements, in line with IOM’s visual identity.
- Apply approved communication briefs, data, and key messages into clear and engaging animated content, developing concepts and visual treatments in coordination with relevant teams.
- Edit assigned video footage, photography, interviews, voice-overs, music, and other audiovisual materials into polished human-interest stories, social media content, donor materials, advocacy products, and event coverage based on approved briefs and editorial guidance.
- Combine live-action footage, animation, graphics, typography, sound, and visual effects to create cohesive and compelling multimedia products in accordance with approved briefs and established technical and visual standards.
- Produce short-form and platform-specific content, including reels, teasers, animated clips, and other formats optimized for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and web platforms.
- Apply subtitles, captions, translations, colour correction, basic colour grading, audio balancing, and sound design, ensuring professional, accessible, and multilingual outputs in English, Arabic, and Kurdish as required.
- Work closely with communications, programme, reporting, and design teams to receive approved briefs, materials, and feedback, make required revisions, and deliver assigned products within agreed timelines.
- Maintain organized project files, templates, source materials, footage, and final outputs, while ensuring compliance with IOM branding, data protection, beneficiary consent, and other relevant standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- University degree in Film Production, Media, Communications, Journalism, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience; or
- Completed high school degree from accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience.
Experience and Skills:
- Professional experience in motion graphics, animation, and video editing, with a portfolio/show-reel.
- Hands-on experience with Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience producing animated infographics, data visualizations, explainers, and social media content.
- Experience producing human interest, advocacy, donor visibility, and social media videos, preferably in a humanitarian, UN, development, or media environment. Experience working across multiple languages (Arabic and/or Kurdish alongside English) is highly desirable.
- Having a high-performance laptop and tools for editing.
- Strong visual storytelling and creative conceptualization skills.
- Strong proficiency in motion graphics, 2D animation, video editing, and post-production.
- Proficiency in colour grading, audio mixing, and multi-track editing.
- Solid understanding of platform-specific video specifications (aspect ratio, length, captions) across social media and web.
- Strong file management and organizational skills; comfortable maintaining structured archives and meeting tight turnaround times.
- Ability to take and incorporate editorial feedback from multiple stakeholders.
- Basic photography or videography skills are an advantage, though the role is editing-focused.
- Discretion and sensitivity when handling footage involving vulnerable populations and beneficiaries.
Languages:
- Fluency in English and either Arabic or Kurdish is required.
- Candidates fluent in Arabic Should have working knowledge of Kurdish, and candidates fluent in Kurdish must have working knowledge of Arabic
