Background:  

Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State (“IS”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria.  

The “Know Your Rights” program aims to empower survivors of ISIL atrocities, especially from the Yazidi community, by increasing their knowledge of their rights and their ability to advocate for them. As part of this program, Yazda is developing a dedicated webpage to increase outreach and access to materials related to minority rights, transitional justice, and legal protections for affected communities. 

Scope of Service:

Yazda is seeking a Web and Brand Designer (UI/UX Developer) to lead the review and redesign of Yazda’s current website, and to conduct a comprehensive brand refresh that aligns with Yazda’s
mission, audience, and evolving communication needs. A particular focus will be given to developing a dedicated webpage for the “Know Your Rights” program.

 

The consultant will be responsible for the following:

Website Redesign and Development:
Review Yazda’s existing website and propose an improved, user-friendly structure and layout.
Enhance functionality, accessibility, and responsiveness across devices.
Ensure smooth navigation and a cohesive user experience.

Dedicated Program Page:

Design and develop a dedicated webpage for the “Know Your Rights” program.
Ensure the page highlights program details and offers access to key materials, such as training videos.
downloadable booklets, and other resources.
Integrate the new page into the overall site in a consistent and engaging way.

 

Brand Refresh:
Conduct a visual brand assessment to identify areas for improvement and modernization.
Propose updated visual elements (such as fonts, color palette, icons, and layout styles) to ensure
consistency across digital platforms.
Develop digital brand assets and style guidelines for internal use across future communications.

 

Deliverables:

Website Redesign & Training Page: Revamp the existing Yazda website, creating a dedicated
"Know Your Rights" page with easy access to training materials (videos, booklets, resources) for
public use
Online Registration: A secure system for training sign-ups and updates.
Usability Report: A summary of testing, feedback, and updates.
Post-Launch Support: 30 days of technical support for Yazda staff.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Skills and Qualifications:

Yazda is seeking an experienced Web and Brand Designer (UI/UX Developer) with the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience in web development, with strong expertise in designing user-centric
    websites.
  • Proficiency in HTML & CSS – Strong foundation in front-end development for creating well-structured, responsive web designs.
  • WordPress and Drupal Development – Hands-on experience in customizing themes, plugins, and managing WordPress and Drupal-based websites.
  • Experience with Design Software – Skilled in industry-standard tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Figma, and Canva for UI/UX design.
  • Knowledge of SEO Best Practices – Ability to optimize web content and structure for search engine visibility and performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to create responsive, accessible websites that meet the needs of diverse user groups.
  • Experience with multimedia content integration (videos, photos, etc.) and creating secure registration systems.
  • Familiarity with ethical guidelines for developing content for vulnerable communities.
