
PURPOSE OF DIVISION:
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international relief and development charity that envisages a caring world where people unite to respond to the suffering of others, empowering them to fulfil their potential. We are an independent Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in the UK in 1984. Working in 40 countries, we promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and disease. We also respond to disasters and emergencies, helping people in crisis. Islamic Relief provides support regardless of religion, ethnicity, or gender and without expecting anything in return.
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) has been working in Iraq for more than 20 years. IRW-Iraq was amongst the few aid agencies those were on the ground since 2003. Islamic Relief Worldwide Iraq is implementing several projects in the sector of livelihoods, WASH, Education, and Protection.
- GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASK(S)
Under the supervision of the Admin and IT Officer, the intern will assist with both information technology (IT) and administrative functions to support the efficient operation of Islamic Relief's Halabja office. A key responsibility will be to organize and manage training events and meetings — providing logistical, administrative, and IT support before, during, and after events.
- MAIN TASKS INCLUDE
Administrative and Event Support:
- Organize and support training sessions, workshops, and internal/external events, including:
- Venue booking and setup
- Preparing attendance sheets, name tags, and training materials
- Coordinating refreshments and supplies
- Managing participant registration and sign-in
- Support logistical arrangements, including transportation, equipment, and hospitality for events and visitors;
- Assist in preparing invitation letters, schedules, and basic reports related to events;
- Take notes or draft meeting minutes when required during internal meetings or training sessions;
- Coordinate with suppliers and service providers for event-related needs;
- Support general office administration including photocopying, scanning, filing, and document organization;
- Maintain office inventory and ensure timely procurement and replenishment of supplies.
IT Support:
- Provide first-level support to staff for troubleshooting basic IT issues (hardware, software, printers, and email);
- Prepare and set up IT equipment for events (e.g., projectors, laptops, sound systems, internet);
- Monitor and report issues related to network connectivity or performance;
- Support data backup, antivirus updates, and maintenance of computers;
- Help maintain an up-to-date IT inventory and ensure secure use of digital resources;
- Ensure implementation of data protection and digital safety protocols in line with IRW guidelines.
General Duties:
- Participate in regular internal meetings and contribute to team updates;
- Support the office in other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor.
- QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field;
- 6 months to 1 year of relevant internship or volunteer experience in administrative or IT support roles;
- Good communication and teamwork skills;
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
- Fluency in Kurdish and English (Arabic is an asset);
- Under the age of 30.
- DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in organizing events or logistics coordination;
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Zoom/Teams, and Microsoft Office tools;
- Basic knowledge of network setup, system security, and office IT infrastructure;
- Ability to multitask, prioritize duties, and work under pressure during events or deadlines.
