Description

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organisation providing assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters, irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.

 

We are seeking to employ a candidate for the following position:

Female – Health Promoter Supervisor

 

Place of work: Baghdad – 2 Locations Al-Sader City and Mahmodya PHCC

 Main purpose of the job:

 

In close collaboration with the HP IEC Activities Manager, implementing and supervising educational campaigns according to MSF values, standards and procedures in order to increase awareness of the targeted population and to promote prevention and treatment of diseases in the project area.

 

Accountabilities:

 

 

  • In close collaboration with the HP manager, participating in the definition and update of the HP/IEC strategy and identifying indicators in order to monitor HP activities, results, and achievements.
  • Supporting the HP manager in organizing and carrying out assessments and research on the impact of HP activities and identifying and reporting the constraints, difficulties or strength points of the HP strategy inside and outside the medical structures in order to reinforce the link between the communities and the project
  • Providing support in selecting and developing quality pedagogical communication strategies towards the community. Planning information campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness among the targeted population.
  • Informing, according to protocols, community members and identified risk groups (prisons, army, sexual workers, etc.) about health-related issues
  • Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF's medical and non-medical staff
  • Identifying key actors (local authorities, local NGOs, traditional healers, formal or informal authorities) and being the focal point for the networking in order to support the dissemination of health information of the target population and be the point of reference for the relation and networking with these subjects.
  • Organizing, training, and supervising the HP team in terms of planning and organizing their work, supporting, evaluating and coaching of personnel, collecting reports and reporting the activities of each health worker and regularly visiting communities that are under his/her responsibility
  • Supervising, in close collaboration with the HR department, the HR associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development, Rosters and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
  • Ensuring cleanliness of IEC (information, education and communication) areas
  • Collecting and reporting to the medical team any information linked to the health situation of the population and the patient
  • Ensure the PPP approach is consistently applied in MSF activities at the target facilities.

MSF CH/Context Specific Accountabilities

 

  • Together with HP Manager, develop content of focus groups, plan and conduct focus groups with the intention of feeding and shaping up the strategy of the project in its initial phase.
  • With support of the HPCE manager, followup all the HP activities in the project to include monitoring and supervision of Community based activities and MSF supported health facilities (Al-Mahmodyia PHCC and Al-sader hospital.
  • Responsible for all the community engagement with the community actors ( Traditional healers/ leaders/ private midwives,  volunteers, women associations and community centers) to address the main health issues aligned to MSF thematic areas.
  • With support HP Manager or the PMR update the Health promotion strategy in line with the medical strategy while considering evolution of the project activities .( identify objectives, indicators, results, tools)
  • Together with the HP manager identify and adapt the IEC materails needed (HP messages, leaflets, flyers and educational flipcharts) for the project to context, following the complete process( adapting, pretesting, validation and printing)
  • Closely monitor and supervise of the HP activities ensuring activties are planned, organised and Implemented timely as per the Logframe and Chronogram following closely indicators.
  • Organise regularly Supervision of each team member using the HP skills grid and keeping record of the identified gaps and setting objectives on what to improve while providing support.
  • Facitate assessments and integration of HP component in the DOH /MSF supported facilites ensuring quality HP Activities are maintained
  • Spearhead the Planning , organisation and faciltation of trainings to the HP team and other teams in the MSF/DOH supported facilities based on the outcome of the assessments (gaps) ensuring upto date skills, methodologoies , participatory approaches and knowledge of Health education topics.
  • Keep the link between HP and other departments ensuring HP team is part and partial of the medical and facilitate understanding of the HP component. (Conduct HP information session)
  • Identify and network with the key actors in the community (local NGOs, CBOs, traditional healers, formal or informal authorities) to support the dissemination of health information to the target population and be the point of reference for the relation and networking with these subjects.
  • Carrry out administrative roles of team leave plan, evaluations, roasters and health education schedules any other HP related activities.
  • Responsible to collect and encode any HP related data( daily report, survey data, assessments,refferals) and drafting monthly reports.

Education

-        Essential: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in social sciences or education/ pedagogy / or social work.  

-        Formal technical training and certifications in the domain would be an asset.

 

Experience

-        Essential: at least 2 years of proven experience in the position or related jobs.

-        Desirable: Experience in MSF or other INGOs is an asset.

-        Essential: Fluency in English (minimum B1) and Arabic
