Description

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its support operations in Iraq.

Job Title: Physiotherapist 1 (Part time position)

Level: B1

Duty Station: Iraq – Erbil Sub Delegation- Physical Rehabilitation Center (PRC).

Reports to: Physiotherapist Team Leader.

Duration of Contract: Fixed-term contract for six months.

Objective:

Physiotherapist 1 is responsible for implementing all physiotherapy-related activities under the supervision of a Physiotherapist Team Leader, from the acute to the early rehabilitation stage, fulfilling various roles to lead in the promotion, improvement, and maintenance of people´s mobility, health and well-being. He/she assesses and provides services to patients in need of physiotherapy within an ICRC-run or supported hospital and/or physical rehabilitation centre during emergency and non-emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities: 

General Duties:

  • Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,
  • Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules at all times,
  • Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all times,
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers,
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC,
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.

 

Accountabilities And Responsibilities:

 

  • Assists in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary team (IDT) on assessment, of amputees and non-amputee service users and collaborates in setting SMART goals with a service user-centered approach and discusses objectives with the service User and/or family.
  • Collaborates setting an individual physiotherapy treatment plan and device prescription according to the service user needs and supports the team on its implementation according to the ICRC treatment guidelines/best available evidence.
  • Ensures that all amputee service users receive proper information on pre-device treatment (bandaging, positioning, therapeutic exercise, desensitization techniques, stump hygiene), prosthetic/orthotic devices care and home exercise program after discharge, with the respective colleagues.
  • Ensures that all non-amputee service users and/or family/carer receive proper information on home exercise program and confirms is well understood by the service user, with the respective colleagues.
  • Follows up implementation of treatment plan (gait training, gait analysis, exercise prescription) in a careful and close manner, ensuring a smooth service user flow.
  • Coordinates with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) team to assure proper follow-up of the service users is done according to the given rules and instructions.
  • Responsible of respecting service user appointments and insure a smooth working procedure in coordination with the team leader.
  • Proposes to the team leader and the administration transportation reimbursement for specific service users according to the given instructions and criteria in place.
  • Informs the team leader about possible candidates for Micro-Economic Initiative (MEI) program in accordance to the given criteria.
  • Identifies areas of improvement by suggesting concrete and realistic solutions to the team leader or PRC manager.
  • Maintains a good and acceptable cleanness and tidiness at the working place, reporting any damaged or not working equipment. Ensures safety procedures are in place and are respected.
  • Develop and maintain a pleasant working environment with colleagues and service users.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education and Professional Experience required:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy with a valid license to practice,
  • Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience and up-to-date knowledge.
  • Fluent command in Kurdish and good command in written and spoken English and Arabic Language is an asset.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Experience with International NGOs, the ICRC and Red Crescent Movement are strong assets.
