About SEED Foundation:

SEED Foundation is a locally-registered NGO in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. SEED’s mission is to protect, empower, and support the recovery of survivors of violence and others at risk. SEED is committed to delivering quality and holistic approaches, combining international expertise and local know-how to achieve results for the people of Iraq and Kurdistan. SEED’s programming focuses on four key objectives: 1) the delivery of transformational, comprehensive MHPSS services including case management, mental health, and legal services, as well as psychosocial support activities; 2) strengthening the capacity of service providers through education, training, and capacity-building programs; 3) ​promoting policy and social change to strengthen the rights of, and protections for, vulnerable groups and individuals; and, 4) supporting the protection and recovery of survivors of trafficking in persons (TIP) including through SEED’s shelter for victims of trafficking and those at risk, after care services, and prevention work to reduce the risk of trafficking through public awareness, technical assistance, and advocacy for legal, regulatory, policy, process, and institutional changes. 

Role of the Nurse: Ensure that women and children that SEED serves have access to day-to-day general care and basic health services. The nurse will work with clients to address their physical health needs through services within the SEED Center, educational information, as well as external medical referrals. Successful candidates must be compassionate, confident, diligent, trustworthy, resourceful, interested in learning new skills, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. The nurse must be willing and interested to work with team members and clients of different religious, ethnic, cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds. All services will be provided in accordance with international ethical standards. 

 

Specific Tasks:

Provision of Basic Medical Care:

  • Provide basic first aid to clients and make referrals for emergency and/or other medical care as needed.
  • Distribute medications to clients in accordance with shelter policy.
  • Ensure all new clients receive a physical examination by a licensed doctor upon intake to the SEED Center.
  • Make appropriate appointments with area hospitals and doctors to address medical needs.
  • Assist clients in following up with medical professionals to address health needs.
  • Document all interactions with clients and other contacts in relation to a resident’s case in accordance with the shelter’s case management system.
  • Participate in supervision as required.
  • Provide basic first aid.

Health Education:

  • Identify health training needs among staff and clients and either prepare materials to meet identified needs or secure external support in facilitating the necessary training.
  • Develop and facilitate effective group health information sessions, as relevant to the population being served, in collaboration with the case management team.
  • Attend relevant training sessions, as assigned, to ensure that the highest quality services can be delivered.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Essential criteria:

  • University degree in nursing
  • Experience providing medical care including basic first aid and referrals to physicians
  • Training and/or experience providing Psychological First Aid a plus
  • Strong belief in human rights and equality
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to exhibit empathy and build trust with others
  • Strong ability to work independently, including the ability to multitask, prioritize competing tasks, and manage time effectively
  • High standard of spoken and written Kurdish or Arabic plus English
  • Good computer skills, including the use of email and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to work in a stressful setting and adapt quickly to changing environments
