
The NTS Team Leader is part of a team conducting non-technical survey of suspected and/or confirmed hazardous areas. The Team Leader is in charge of the team and responsible for the team management, deployment of team members in the field, reporting, team equipment and safety.
The NTS Team leader is obligated to collect data and report to the TFM and hand over reports to the IM Officer/Assistant, using all relevant information and equipment which means:
- Sound knowledge of relevant NPA SOP Chapters and general knowledge of other chapters.
- Lead the team in meetings with authorities or communities.
- Manage the team’s work and ensure productivity meets donor’s outputs.
- Conduct any conflict resolution between the team and community/local authorities.
- Have in depth knowledge of map reading, use of handheld GPS and IMSMA forms.
- Perform surveyor duties if required due to an absence of surveyors in the team.
- Analyse existing desktop data prior to conducting NTS tasks.
- Advise NTFM on tasking and planning/prioritisation of NTS team work.
- Select Reference Points and positioning Benchmarks for recording hazardous areas.
- Take compass bearings and measure distances on the ground.
- Apply permanent Hazardous marking of areas and identified ERW as required.
- Competent use of radio communication equipment and GPS.
- Complete and/or conduct quality checks of all NTS/EORE reporting.
- Any other duties as directed by the NTFM or other STFM.
Required Qualifications:
Must have
- Computer literacy
- Arabic written and verbal literacy
- Driver’s (manual) license
Desirable
- Demining/BAC/Survey/NTS/MRE Course
- Instructor training
Experience:
Must have
- Previous experience in a leadership role
- Related experience or proven background suitable for NTS Team Leader work
Desirable
- Experience working with Mine Action
- 2 years work as NTS/EORE surveyor
Other Qualifications:
- Verbal and written proficiency in Arabic
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to check/correct reports to a high standard
- Good communication and understanding skills
- Able to work effectively under stressful situations and adapt to difficult conditions
- Willingness and ability to travel within the country and stay in temporary accommodation
Additional Responsibilities
The holder of the position is to abide by the policies set by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), and to represent the organization in a loyal and responsible manner.
This position is based in Muthanna - Al Salman district -Bussya sub district. The organization do not provide residency or travel to it.
