JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Agriculture Expert to lead agricultural development efforts in Saqlawia and Fallujah, Al Anbar. This role is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices, and addressing environmental challenges in the region. The Agriculture Expert will work closely with local farmers, community members, and project staff to introduce modern agricultural techniques and improve resilience to climate change.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Technical Support and Guidance

  • Provide expert advice on sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices tailored to the local context.
  • Conduct field assessments to identify key agricultural challenges and opportunities.
  • Develop practical solutions to address issues related to soil fertility, water management, pestcontrol, and crop diversification.


2. Capacity Building

  • Design and implement training programs to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills in modern farming techniques, climate adaptation strategies, and sustainable resource management.
  • Organize workshops, field demonstrations, and hands-on learning sessions for farmers and local communities.
  • Support the formation and development of farmer groups or cooperatives to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration.


3. Project Implementation

  • Work with the project team to plan and execute agricultural development activities effectively and in line with project objectives.
  • Assist in the distribution of agricultural inputs (seeds, tools, etc.) and resources to farmers.
  • Monitor project activities, ensuring they are executed on time and under the agreed objectives and standards.

4. Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with local farmers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to promote the adoption of modern agricultural practices.
  • Actively engage communities in discussions about the benefits of sustainable agriculture and encourage local participation in the project.
  • Ensure that the feedback and needs of the farming communities are considered in project planning and decision-making.


5. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Develop and implement monitoring tools to assess the impact of project activities on agricultural productivity and sustainability.
  • Regularly document progress, challenges, and lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and a final comprehensive report, providing an analysis of achievements, challenges, and recommendations for future agricultural initiatives.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education: A degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field; a postgraduate degree is preferred.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in agricultural development or extension services, with a strong focus on sustainable and climate-smart farming practices.
Knowledge: In-depth understanding of agricultural challenges and practices specific to Anbar or similar regions, including soil, water management, and climate adaptation strategies.
Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Languages: Proficiency in Arabic is required; knowledge of English is an advantage.
