Overall job purposes

 Under direct supervision of the Head of Support and in close coordination with the Head of Programmes and the finance , logistice and HR teams . The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for effective and accurate financial and accounting of Al-Ghad programmes in Iraq. Furthermore the Senior Finance Officer will ensure compliance, managing financial risks, auditing and timely financial reporting to donors under the Programmes. This also includes the budget follow-ups, cash management, implementation of Al-Ghad’s operational and financial management strategies and procedures.


Main responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly cash book/bank book, financial reports and budget vs actual statements
  • Collection of bank statement on monthly basis and prepare the bank reconciliation statement
  • Maintain & monitor Petty Cash in Office and regularly replenish the petty cash and ensure enough cash is available in the office to meet day to day office expenses
  • Prepare monthly payroll, collection of staff time sheets and Payroll disbursement
  • Ensure timely payment of income tax and social securities
  • Keep cheque book & Cash in safe custody
  • Produce and maintain up-to-date book-keeping system , Data entry in accounting software (Quickbooks ) on regular basis
  • Ensure that all documentation are prepared according to the requirements of the Organization/ project donors
  • Prepare audit schedules and details required by the auditors
  • Maintain a permanent inventory of the organization's equipment and assets and conduct the physical verification on regular basis
  • Keep all financial record in systemic manner and ensure that all vouchers are readily available for review/audit
  • Participate in tender opening, attend as observer, and make sure that all MC policies and donor regulations are implemented.
  • Prepares budget versus spending and Reviews actual expenditure against budgets regularly and inform to budget holders;
  • Provides technical support and/or trainings to finance team in budget preparation, forecast and revision process, reporting on these budgets, consistency and compliance, and preparation for external audits when needed.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications Requested:

  • BA and/or MA in Finance/Accounting, Business, or Public Administration ,or Engineering
  • Minimum two years relevant experience in financial management and operational systems in projects’ administration, project management, financial management and audit management within the private sector or International NGOs;
  • Proven experience in handling large scale- multi-donor funding, reporting systems;
  • Knowledge of audit track, accounting and budgetary procedures and techniques, procurement of goods and services, stocks and assets control;
  • Fluency in English, Arabic and Kurdish Languages;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook email;
  • Good management, administrative and communication skills;
  • Must be organized, able to be multi-tasked, flexible, and able to work as a team and individual;
  • Be very flexible regarding time, tasks and responsibilities.
